I feel so mean..

Two weeks ago on Sunday, my little baby kitten Mandarin broke his leg (I was at work when it happened, I'm not sure at all how he did it). He had to have a pin in his leg, and I have to keep him confined for 6-8 weeks. Needless to say he hates it, and I don't blame him. We borrowed my aunt's dog carrier, since it's big, and put a litter box in there for him. We were keeping food and water in there, but he started getting litter in it, so we let him out 3 times a day, for 15 minutes each, to walk around and eat and drink. (He did get pretty pudgy that first week when there was a constant supply of food). I just hate keeping him in there, he cries all the time, and all I want to do it take him out of there and cuddle him. I can't though, he gets really rambunctious and I'm scared to death he'll hurt himself again (especially since he instigates fights with his 10 month old sister). I know it's for his own good but it breaks my heart hearing him cry.

Awww poor kitty!
Can't you spend some quiet time with him in a small room like a bathroom. Have a seat on the floor and play with him for a while so he doesn't feel neglected.

I do take him out like that, I put the food and water bowls in my room and let him out. The problem is that there's something in every room that he tries to jump on. (For a cat with three legs, he's hellaciously fast). He's been putting a bit more weight on the leg when he's out, so we're hoping that the vet may clear him a little sooner to be out and about.

Awwwww, poor little Mandarin! I hope he gets well soon! It breaks my heart whenever I hear a little kitten cry in pain and loneliness!

As far as taking him out of the carrier to eat, drink walk around and cuddle for a while, I think it is fine. You have to be on your toes to make sure he doesn't jump on furniture or does something to cause further injury. I am glad to hear that you are doing all you can to keep him safe during his recovery.

I'm just hoping he understands why I'm doing it... he and his sister are my heart and I can't bear the thought of anything bad happening to them.

Crystalline, I feel for you. I'm a kitty-lover, too. Pet him some for me.
