Michigan's left coast (southernmost)
 

My mom and I went on a little mini-vacation Saturday from Chicago to Michigan, and oh my goodness had a blast. We started out shopping at outlets in Michgan City ( I know thats Indiana) and then drove up the Red Arrow Highway. We stopped at two winery retail outlets for wine tasting and then went to St. Joseph where we shopped and went to Schu's and the South Bend Chocolate cafe. Spent three hours on Silver Beach, then drove around and gawked at some of the lakefront homes. Drove back down to New Buffalo, went to the Stray Dog for dinner/drinks and then watched the sun set over the lake, and drove back to Chicago.

I really liked that area of Michigan and it was so nice to get out of the concrete jungle that is Chicago.

I went on a little weekend to South Haven a few years ago and I loved it. I stayed at two amazing bed and breakfasts, and it was really a nice getaway without being too far away.

That sounds like so much fun.

All of my family resides on the west coast, They live just north of Holland, and one of my dearest friends also attended Hope in Holland, so I have spent many weekends on the beaches of Lake Michigan (but not as many as Lake Huron which is home) The area is truely beautiful, I would highly recomend a visit during Tulip Fest in the Spring, I also am attending my first winery and vineyard tour this fall *mmmm wine tasting* in the Southwest corner, around the Coloma area where one of our sisters is from.

Missed you by one week! We were in St. Joseph last weekend. :)

I have friends in Niles/Buchanan - little wide places in the road. Wonderful getaway, esp around Christmas.

Living in Michigan, I think I kinda take it all for granted. This really is a nice place though! I'm glad you had fun.

I'll be up in Michigan this weekend but I'll be closer to the thumb area. :)
