Girls Gone Wild...Who's to blame?

Are the girls who participate in the Girls Gone Wild video victims or willing participants?

Here's a link to an article about it. What do you guys think?

The author of the article says it best: "We girls gotta get smarter".

The girls who appear in those videos and then have a change of heart should realize that you should not get drunk to the point that you'd be willing to do those things. And, in the case of Erin from the Dr. Phil show, should learn to resist peer pressure.

Do I think Joe Francis is a slimeball? Sure I do. But he wouldn't be the gazillionaire he is today if young women hadn't allowed themselves to be filmed in compromising positions.

to be blunt, I've been really, really, really drunk a few ;) times in my life. but I've never shown my boobs to some random man with a camera. From the ads of GGW I've seen, many of the girls look pretty sober.

They are willing participants & should suck up any post-event embarrassment. I second your thought, 33girl, drunk does not equal nudity. I also heard that both Mardi Gras *and* Spring Break are fun with clothes on!!

Joe Francis is slime.

The line "We girls gotta get smarter." is the best commentary I've ever seen on this topic.

If this weirdo ever came up to me and asked me to take my top off, he'd come away from the conversation with a broken nose.

I remember reading an article on the smoking gun website wher Francis et scum got a girl tanning on a boat to flash them. When she found out that she had been filmed for GGW, she sued, claiming they used her footage for commercial purposes without her consent.

She has a valid legal point. But if I were the judge in that case, I'd channel Judge Judy and say, "Dear, the next time some stranger with a camera asks you to take your top off, DON'T!!!!"

What's sad is, we actually have to spell that out to people these days........

Yeah, I thought Snoop turned over a new leaf. I also heard that most of the girls in those videos were porn stars, but I dunno.

I don't know what happened, but Snoop did say that he didn't want anything else to do with GGW. They've got new infomercials on now, and they're not showing the Snoop ones anymore.

I don't know...I think most of these girls are friggin' idiots anyway.

This raises a question....who cares?

Munchkin03 07-23-2003 04:45 PM

Okay, I've been drunk as a skunk and high as a kite many more times than I can remember. BUT...I've never been drunk enough to flash someone who's holding a camera! One of the things my mommy always said was not to do anything in front of a camera that you could come to regret.

I'm against many of the archaic rules that dictated women's behavior in my parents' and grandparents' generations, but there are some that are, in my mind, simple common sense. So many women endanger themselves all the time...scary. :(

Don't give SnoopDog too much credit. I read somewhere that he was cutting his ties to GGW but he was going to start filming his own videos.

Not too long ago, I saw a special with the GGW people on VH1. Prior to seeing this special, I thought that the girls were being victimized and used as marketing tools. Now, my thoughts are a bit torn between both sides. VH1 followed a group of 3 or 4 girls who were getting ready to attend a GGW party close to their college (the footage at the party was for the newest tapes or something like that). These girls knew what they were getting themselves into...they said so themselves. One of the girls' goal was to win the Wildest Girl title. She was taking shot after shot while getting ready because she said she would be wilder if she was drunk. Needless to say, when these girls got to the party, they were all over the camera men. These girls were not victims. Later on that night, the girls were offered money to go in a room and do things on the camera (now that I think of it, these might be the girls that are mentioned in the orginal article). One girl out of the bunch didn't feel right about it and left the room. She was drunk....but again, her decision to drink! Do I feel sorry for these girls, no. They consented to the offers made by the camera men.

All things aside, I do think that Joe Francis (or whatever his name is) is scum. He is making money off of girls who are drunk and willing to flash the camera. Some people might compare this business to porn or Playboy Magazines. However, IMO, there is a major difference...the women featured in porn and Playboy are making lots of money for what they are doing. The people featured on GGW are making nothing themselves, but are reeping in the money for the creators. I do not agree with this.

Why I am sure some girls regret and feel victimized by GGW, I am sure some just do it for their 15 mins of fame.

ZTAngel 07-23-2003 05:43 PM

A few of my friends were in Cancun for spring break. One of the GGW guys kept following my friends around the bar begging them to flash the camera. Kept buying them more and more drinks. Of course, my friends just kept taking these free drinks and ultimately refused to flash the camera. :) The point being, I think the GGW people harass a lot of the girls into flashing the camera. And, the drunker they get, the more reluctant they are to say no because of their lower inhibitions. Yeah, the girls are idiots. Never flash someone with a camera...plain and simple. I still do feel bad for them though. That would suck to wake up the next morning and remember what you did the night before and realize that you're going to be in a mass-produced video with your boobs showing. <shivers>

Sure naked girls are fun to look at but sooner or later even that gets old, maybe this GGW thing will too. Wait Payboy just turned 50 I am way off.

Why is it when I flash my chest no one really cares.
