requests no mass mailings...

so i am busy updating info for my collegiate chapter and we have had several ais who didn't want to receive info from the chapter. no biggie. today, i got an address update from someone that i know pretty well....with a request to not receive mass mailings. it is not like our chapter sends out a ton of things. since sept, i have received 3 pieces of mail from the chapter. i am totally bummed! i have been working really hard to put a great newsletter together for the alums and i just wanted to share it with everyone. anyway, i am just complaining....

Realize that most alumnae are also getting mail from the alumnae chapter and there is just so much! Instead of doing separate mailings, see if you can insert a copy of your newsletter into the alumnae chapter mailing and offer to share the cost of the postage. That way you get your newsletter out to the alumnae, but don't flood their mailbox.

It happens to the best of us.

Every year we send out an invitation to the local alumnae inviting them to our alum chapter -- you wouldn't *believe* some of the nasty-grams we get back! It's not like we flooded the mailbox -- 1 invitation(!)

There's just no pleasing some people!

I was our alumnae relations IG chair last semester.. i created a listserv and then later alumnae newsletters to send out..

I got a couple of repsonses asking to be taken off which werent so polite, but then at the same time for every email i got saying "take me off the list" i got at least five saying how great this was..

so in then end i think its worth it to most alum

That's so sad! I would love to get stuff from my collegiate chapter. I have no idea what they're up to these days.

Do not despair!:(

I get the same thing when I send out emails! I just delet yours! Well, I send out changes and soon I get do you have so and so email!! DA!

Brother Jono FIT (FL) tells me the same thing!

It is tuff, but I have Broad shoulders and Brothers thank me for being the one that holds it together! OK, You be the one!

I'd be thrilled to receive a newsletter from my collegiate chapter. I don't understand the big deal; why wouldn't someone like that?

Some people are just a-holes. Just take her name off the list, and forget about it.

I think it might have been the wording. You have to be careful. People automaticly say no to mass mail, junk mail. But they might not realize what they are not getting. Mass mailings could mean anything. And from a marketing point of view, doesn't sound like something you would want.

Edited to add that I crave information from my collegiate chapter and my alum chapter. :D

She may have been stressed about something else. I'd just say ok and if you ever change your mind let us know, we'd love to have you recieve our updates.

Well said, Little E.

Pinky, don't let it get you down -- what a great example of a Phi Mu you are, spearheading this effort to keep the alumna involved!

Just to show what I was talking about:

I received 2 emails to report up dates for Brothers who have changed or want to be added to the address book!:D

It is times like this when I feel all of the hard work that I have been doing for 3 years to compile this, let alone the money to get these that come in!

HINT: Try to find someone who was close to those Sisters who write you this. It can help to maybe get the others back into the fold. But of course, there may be other problems. Dont worry, you cant get them all, even as much as you do, just as I do!:)

Pleeze, Do Not Give Up!!!!!!!!!!

pinkyphimu 08-03-2003 11:19 PM

i haven't given up! it was just one alum! i did get the newsletter finished after a few computer glitches...including a bad file. my big sis (also the newsletter editor) who lives an hour away from me and her husband helped me to collate, staple, fold, and stamp them and i am dropping them in the mail tomorrow!

hurray!!!

pixell, i think you are right. i had someone transfer to another school and ask if we were going to "bother" her anymore. and no, she is not the person who requested to not recieve mail.

Thats so sad that many alums feel that Greek life is "just a college thing" & don't anything to do w/ the colligiate or alum chapters! ;)

What happen to the pledge that they made that sister or brotherhood is for LIFE?
