GLO Wish List?!?

SO, I was talking with my friend Ashley telling her I was going to rush and she said she was thinking she would too and that she'd go Alphas. Then she mentioned to the effect that a friend of hers (an Alpha) said what's your last name I'm going to add you to the "wish list"

What in the world is the wish list?! Is it like a guaranteed bid (unspoken) if a person on the list decides to rush?

Rose&WhiteGirl 07-22-2003 08:34 AM

You should never take ANYONE'S word that you have a bid. "wish list" or not. Im assuming a wish list is when rushees have friends in a house and the PNM provide a pic and info. similar info to what a rec. would include. they treat it like a rec sort of....

You said it...

From what i gather, this 'wish list' is really nothing more than an internal rec. Basically, a sister says "There's a woman coming through rush who I know, please make an effort to meet her"

I *highly* doubt that any GLO would allow a single member to promise a bid to a PNM (it's an infraction during formal recruitment), and I'd be very careful around those that do.

Is Alphas NPC, NPHC, a local, a multicultural or what? I would think that different conferences can recruit differently.

shadokat 07-22-2003 10:17 AM

NO NO NO!! No guaranteed bid. Gosh, why would anyone tell a PNM something like that? I'm sure your friend and the Alphas are great folks, but sororities should NEVER tell you or any other PNM something of this nature. It just isn't right.

33girl 07-22-2003 10:54 AM

If she's talking about the ASAs (I think they are called Alphas at TBSG's school) the "wish list" is simply something we use to target women we are interested in. It is not a guaranteed bid of any sort, just something we use within rush - it goes with our "built to last" recruitment philosophy and taking a more proactive approach toward rush.

Please let your friend know that this ISN'T a bid promise of any sort!

Is a "wish list" kind of like a "rush crush"?

I love these recruitment terms, they crack me up! :D

Yeah, sort of like rush crushes even if formal rush isn't happening.

ToBeSororityGrl 07-22-2003 12:33 PM

I'll let her know about the bid thing because she thought since she was on the wish list, that if she decided to rush she'd have a bid and I told her, well, because of infractures I would think it'd be like the sister would tell everyone you're coming through and to be on the lookout.

33girl, this would then kind of be like a recommendation right? So, if I received a rec for the Alphas would I possibly be on the wish list too then?

pinkyphimu 07-22-2003 12:38 PM

that is an interesting concept. i think that most glos have a "we would like to take a closer look at this girl" list.....BUT it is not cool to tell a PNM that she is on that list.

Little E 07-22-2003 12:40 PM

The speakers I've heard use the term use it the way 33girl does. You think of the women that would make good sisters, you either know them from home or class or whatever. Then the sorority makes a special effort to get to know them and recruit them. I've always associated it with COB rush rather than formal. We've tried it and it quickly got dubbed our 'stalker list' in the house. It is supposed to be a great recruitment tool!

Good Luck with rush!

I am not sure how other schools do their lists like this but we do something similar here. We list legacies, girls with 4.0's and LOTS of activities, and girls with special skills (singing, dancing, etc.) for the most part. Usually just because they have a rec that does not mean they will necessarily make our list or be a rush crush. We have so many women go through recruitment so recs are helpful in the case that they might direct our attention to a PNM we overlooked in the hundreds of girls we have to look at, but for them to make our wish list there has to be something that stands out on their resume/info sheet. Hope that helps clear some things up. :)

Rush Crush?

What exactly is a rush crush then? I always interpreted to mean that, oh a girl we hadn't met goes through and the girl fell in love with her and dubbed her that name because she wanted the PNM to go her house.

AchtungBaby80 07-22-2003 12:53 PM

A rush crush is a girl (or maybe more than one!) you meet during rush that you absolutely love and would be thrilled to have her in your chapter. She's the one you try hardest to convince that she belongs in your sorority. :)

33girl 07-22-2003 12:56 PM

Little E is right on the button :).

and Fab is right too...a rec is just a notice from an alum to let the chapter know that a girl either has some sort of tie to the sorority, or that an alum has evaluated her or her resume and found her to be sorority material. It doesn't have any bearing on whether the active chapter will offer her a bid.

You may need a rec to get a bid at some schools & chapters, but it NEVER guarantees a bid anywhere.
