computer question!

Hey Guys,
I am looking to buy a laptop for this fall, and I have it narrowed down between a Compact and a Toshiba. Any recomendations or comments? I would greatly appreciate it considering I know very little about computers! They are both equal in many repects but also have about the same ups and downs. Thanks for your help!
:p

Well, I am pretty sure that IBMs will have anything you need on a laptop for about the same price. I swear by IBM laptops, they will go through the ringer and I have had nothing but great experiences with their warranty dept. I buy laptops for the attorneys at my office and they treat tham crap and the laptops keep on going. Never tried toshiba's but I have have heard some horror stories about compaqs screens.

Nither,

Get a Dell or maby a gateway.

if you have your heart set on a toshiba or compaq I would definatly go with the toshiba. Many people i know have had alot of trouble with compaq in the past.
I used to hava toshiba desktop and ehh it was alright, it really all depends on what you want to do with it. If you can find a Dell or gateway for an equal price with farily equal componants i would go with one of thoes two. that would just be my little opinion.
you can PM me if you have any more ??'s

Oh yeah i fergot IBM is a very decent laptop as well.

I vote niether!

For the love for all that is holy DO NOT get a Compaq!

I have one and since HP bought them out it's impossible to get anything and plus I don't think they really make them much any more (could be wrong).

I'd go with a nice safe Dell or Gateway.

I'm partial to Gateway since I just ordered one.

only about 3k too??

Alienware is waaaay overpriced IMO. Anyway, that being said - I would stay far far away from Compaqs. They have "issues" doing just about everything and their tech support people are mental midgets.

-471 times my computer has told me it has no CD drive or CD-rW, and when I called tech support they told me it was because I installed XP

No, it's really not if you think about it. Alienware was built for a specific type of computer user, the gamer. They get the best processor and videocard, which can be around 1k alone.

I was just sayin, if this person had money, they shoulda bought one. They look awesome

Please do not buy Compaq - nothing but trouble. And as GeekyPenquin put it so well there tech support is awful.

I don't know anything about Toshiba, but they would have to be better. I agree go with IBM if you can afford it, otherwise look into Dell or Gateway. Maybe even the new Sony Vaio.

I'd say get an Apple, either an iBook or PowerBook. I've had my PowerBook for about 2 months and love it - I've had no trouble whatsoever. One of my best friends has been using Macs for years and has never had a problem. Plus, you won't have to deal with virus problems - Mac viruses are rare and hard to catch.

Dell's tech support has really gone downhill the past year or so - the last time I called them was about two months before getting my PowerBook, and I got someone on the phone who barely spoke English. I couldn't understand them, and they barely understood me. It wasn't a good situation at all.

That said, if you really want a PC I'd go with the Toshiba. They're really well made, and according to a friend in computer science who owns one, they have great tech support.

I don't think your standard GCer is a hardcore gamer - and seriously, who buys a computer because it looks cool? :p

Honestly, if you are looking for a laptop and you want a decent deal, I'd look into a Dell. From what I've heard their laptops are pretty nice and they aren't too expensive.

I'd stay away from Compaq.

You might want to check out Sony too.
