event photographers

Hey everyone,
My chapter is pretty new on campus, we have only been here for a year, and we have only used a photgrapher once for Bid Dya last year. We hated how our pictures turned out. Snapshots that the girls took looked better than what we got. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an event photographer that worked well for them and if you could post up their website so I can check them out. I know that we want to use a photographer for more events, but we are so hesitant because of our last expereince. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone on our campus uses Party pics. Their website www.partypics.com should tell you if they are in your area.

I've been pretty pleased with how Party Pics has photographed our events. However, they charge a ridiculous amount of money for a single print, and so I've been taking my digital camera everywhere.

I will 3rd the party pics suggestion.

yeah... prices are super high for snapshots so we normally just get the "bid day" picture of the whole house and the new class. there is usually a deposit you pay if you have them take snapshots and if that quota isn't met, you end up paying more than you may want to.

i tried doing the snapshot thing for a formal but there was no time for girls to order pics and our house was pretty small at the time.

but they are pretty good here in cali for large group pics.

we use www.greekyearbook.com

the prices are reasonable and they have very fast turnaround, and you can preview the pics online before you order them. we use them for both panhel bid day as well as individual events.

A lot of groups at the UA use Greekyearbook, since it was started by a student here. They do a good job and I don't think that their prints aren't too exspensive.

We all used partypics.com at Boston U., and it worked out great for us.

At USC, alot of groups use LA Party Pics aka Party Pics. Other groups use JW Party Pics

At Stephen F. Austin State University, http://www.mypartypix.com is really popular.

Don't use party pics ever lol. Have you guys followed the news? Almost every chapter that has gotten in trouble for pictures have used party pics and get in trouble because they post the pics publicly.

Try going to the Art department of your university and get a photography major . . . much cheaper and much more control. We did it for our installation and got some great pics . . . of me lol.

We use partypics...

And the party pics are password protected. Just tell the photographer what password to put them under and only give it out to your chapter.

Every sorority on our campus (8 NPC sororities) uses party pics, and we've never gotten in trouble.

It's so easy to guess passwords...UWXYZ, UWalphabetas, etc.
Plus sisters will give them out to a friend from high school, who will then show his roomie, who will then show his friend, etc etc. I think we've all seen some crazy pictures that were "hidden" originally.

I have to agree with James. Call me a Luddite, but can't you get the photog to just deliver a proof sheet to your house only, and not place them on the internet??

absolutuscchick 07-20-2003 09:10 PM

One plus about partypics is that it is actually freetohave the photographer come out to your events as long as people purchase atleast $50 or $100 worth of pictures at each event (not hard to do with the prices though!!). You also have to agree to only use Party Pics I believe. As for them being posted online, don't get a password like "alphabetadeltausc" and I would think you would be fine....I know that I personally really like having them online. In my local sorority, we used to get the pictures from a photographer and it took FOREVER, pictures got lost, one girl had to collect all the money etc. (SUCH a pain!) so we are much happier with partypics.
