House Pets

So technically in AGD you cannot have a pet in the house, but for about two or three years there was a cat that basically lived outside the house- and we fed her and took her to the vet, etc. and Her name was Epi (pronounced ep-ey).
Anyway, I wondered if any other houses had pets, and if so there names!

A while after I was out of school, the girls got a cat named Calva, after one of our founders. She was beautiful - she must have been part Maine Coon because she got HUGE but still had a baby face. She now lives with a sister's grandma.

when I was undergrad, most of the fraternities had house dogs and brought them to events like Greek Week. One year the lone female dog ended up bumping uglies with all the other house dogs - I'm not sure what the puppies looked like. :p

Well we've had a few house pets, the last dog moved out at the beginning of the week to go live at a brother's ex's house. But we still have a small bird right now.

We used to have Nads, our chapter mascot, it was a Fetal Goat in a jar with preserving fuild. He was in our composite for a few years. We miss that damn goat, maybe the bio department could see it's way to donating nads junior.

We finally had to write a "No Pets" clause into our bylaws and the house corporation leases. It really was just not a good situation for the animals living in a fraternity house. When I first joined my chapter, we had Sigma, a chow, and as is typical to chows, didn't take well to strangers. He also was fairly aggressive and liked to play pretty rough and I was one of the few brothers who could really handle him. He went home for the summer with a brother, and wound up getting loose and being shot by a farmer. Then we had a black lab that was an extremely friendly, lovable dog, but housebreaking became a big issue because people wouldn't take responsibility for the dog. So he wound up going to a brother's girlfriend's parents and got a good home.
We also had Mortimer-slut-cat for awhile as well. My roommate found this kitten while working grounds crew one summer and brought it home and we kept it. Well, not knowing anything about cats, we named it Mortimer, thinking it was a boy. Well Mortimer got bigger, and then one day just disappeared! Mortimer was gone for a few weeks, and then one day just sauntered back on the porch while we sat there. After a couple more weeks, Mortimer than began to get "very" pregnant! To our chagrin Mortimer was actually Morticia! We used to joke that our "slut-cat" went out, got knocked up and decided to come back home! Well, again being stupid guys, we didn't really know much about the gestation period of cats. I came into the chapter house after class one day, and Mortimer is no longer pregnant! We followed that cat everywhere for 2 weeks trying to figure out where she had her kittens, but we couldn't find them! Then one morning, I'm sitting in the living room talking to a brother's girlfriend, and we hear this little "mew" sound. So we follow the sound and it is coming from the couch! Mortimer had gotten under the couch, and into the box springs of the couch to have her kittens. (There was a sheet of plywood that the cushions sat on, so it kept anyone who sat there from crushing them) She had six kittens and Mortimer(Morticia) and kittens went to live on a brother's girlfriend's parent's farm (hmm. I see a trend). Well after that debacle, we wrote the "no pets" (except fish) bylaw.

One of my sisters has "Louis" (named after The Spirit of St. Louis... she's a flight major), a guinea pig. He was always our mascot and we'd yell, "Do it for Louis!" at volleyball games.

This sister moved into the house and Louis now has a cage in the corner of the kitchen dining room. He knows that he is not allowed in the hall that leads to all the bedrooms... it is too funny! I think we should have made him our Bordeaux Beau this year, but it went to a very deserving guy instead. ;)

However, now EVERYONE wants a damn pet. My sorority house is becoming a zoo because everyone wants to bring their pets over. Between the girls, there's now like, 3 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, a snake, a sugar glider, and God knows what. I'm going to recommend that pets can't come over any more except for outdoor events, because girls have been bringing pets to chapter meetings and no one pays attention any more. Yes, I love dogs, and they're cute, but they aren't members!

Louis sounds cute!

I think that the whole "now everyone wants a pet" is the reason many groups have a no-pets policy (or policy that only allows small pets)

Our house only allows "small bowl fish". I really like the small bowl fish policy (even though I'd *really* like a bichon or a kitty cat :p ) because it keeps the pets small, and don't make the house smell like a zoo!

My freshman year, we were still allowed to have small fish, or reptiles. I think about half way through the year though, everyone had a Beta, yet no one wanted them anymore. No one wanted to kill theirs either, so everyone just waited for them to keel over. This led to people's fish dying over the weekend, while sisters were gone, and it really got a bit gross. Now we have a no pets rule, including no fish.

Our neighbors, the Delts, have a duck. His name is Roger, and he's been around for about a year. He's pretty popular on campus, and he even went seranading with them for homecoming. He wore a tie too, very cute! The guys even made 1 year birthday signs for him and posted them all over campus, and I'm sure, had a party in his honor. The campus paper even had an article about him. I think that he's by far, the most popular pet on our campus.

We usually have an assortment of fish in our house, but that's all. We did have Mr. Fuzzy Nuts, a big ol' squirrel, but he died in a mysterious accident over the winter.

The Delta Sig chapter has Hogan, a Samoyed (I think) but he is getting old and they don't keep him at the house too much anymore. TKE also had a puppy last semester that one of the brothers was taking care of. The KAEs, a local, have a really cute puppy they take everywhere, and I think a few cats.

Mr. Fuzzy Nuts? Mysterious accident?
I'm sorry, but I spit my drink out when I read that 'cause i was laughing.
Sometimes i can have the humor-maturity of a 12 year old

I would love to see Roger the duck in his tie (bow tie or regular?):D

And "Mr Fuzzy Nuts"? heh heh heh :D

We used to put the dogs on the composite (never Mortimer slut-cat though). One year the dog's picture was right next to the chapter sweetheart. She wasn't too happy about that!

Well the Mr. Fuzzy Nuts, yeah, that's funny. ;) The mysterious accident was that one day we were doing some house cleanup in the yard because we were having a barbecue, and we were taking a bunch of garbage out to the curb. We found Mr. Fuzzy Nuts flattened up against our house by our garbage bins. It looked like he somehow got stuck between a big box and the house and froze.

Eeeww. Mr Fuzzy Nuts-icle!

(I'm going back in my cage now.)

My dog which is our house dog is a black lab named Apollo. He is the biggest pimp ever and is pictured with a suit and tie in the middle of the composite.
