The movie "Kids"

What do you guys think? When I first saw it I was 13 I think, and I remember thinking "Damn, I don't want to end up like that". A lot of people hate the movie for it's "chilling reality" or, on the complete opposite of that, it's "complete innaccuracy". Those who do like it see it as a brilliant commentary on today's young adults. Now, since it was made so long ago, does it still apply to 2003?

Discuss.

It's been a couple years since I've seen it, so I can't remember all of it. I think there are some parts of it that are still fairly accurate to today -- except that I would be willing to say that the things portrayed in the movie are starting to expand outward to suburban and middle-class kids instead of just being limited to "the ghetto."

I have a friend who did a sociology paper on this movie last year . . . I should ask him what he thinks.

I loved the movie
They banned it from my small town
So a friend sent us a copy of the video
It was kind of funny because Telly wasn't that cute and he was getting these young chicks
Casper was the best character to be
My fave scene was the beatdown in the park

Yes, it is reality
And yes, it would apply to 2003

I first saw it when I was like 15 and I was shcoked by the bluntness of the movie. I would say it portrays some of todays youth.

I think it's a brilliant movie, even though it is disturbing.

If anybody enjoyed Kids, RUN out and get a movie called "Bully".....it's basically "Kids" in the suburbs. It is shocking and satirical. I couldn't help but laugh at certain scenes, not because they were ill-acted, but because they were so absurd.

The actor that played Casper commited suicide a little over a year ago in the Bellagio in Las Vegas. He had been up for an independent spirit award for film he had recently done.

I have it on DVD...

Its one of my favorite movies, I saw it when I was a teen. I didn't know anyone that lived that way, so I was also shocked by the movie. Its a great movie that is discussed in college film classes because of its controversy, and jump started a few careers (Rosario Dawson, Chloe Sevingy)

Where do you guys find it???? Because every movie store I've gone to... Blockbuster, Family Video, Suncoast... does not have it! Do you think Best Buy or Media Play would have it? I've never seen it so of course I wanted to rent it and not actually buy it.

I am guessing that it is still accurate. Quite frankly, I never lived in the city, but certain aspects did appear in my suburban America.

Another good movie in the same vein is Another Day in Paradise

Bully was based on a murder that happened in my area - though the movie REALLY glammed it up. Geez, the actors do not resemble the real kids in ANY way - you can easily look them up on the Florida Corrections website to see for yourself!

And BTW, the kid who played Telly in Kids also played the Gangster in Bully. Funny seeing him all grown up!

I think Kids is one of my favorite movies because it's "in your face reality" at its best. A lot of people were shocked when it first came out because many of them didn't want to face the truth about some "kids" today.

Bully was also a very good movie.

I'd also recommend Requiem For A Dream if you haven't seen it yet.

PM_Mama,

Look for a video store that specializes in foreign or "arty" films. They usually have things that the big chains don't. Or try a used CD/DVD/video store - you could get it for cheap and then probably sell it back if you want.

Oh, another good movie.

If you've ever seen "Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills", it's a great documentary of three kids who were convicted by an ultra conservative town for the murders of 3 8yr old boys. They have enough evidence to show they didn't do it, they even have a confession from a different person! But just because they wear black and listen to metal, they were persecuted.

I didn't care for Bully very much....but Requiem - whoa, what a movie! I finally saw it a couple of weeks ago & it blew me away. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite movies, but it was really phenomenal.

kids made me sick to my stomach....honestly. i don't remember how old i was when i saw it....15 or 16, i guess....and i lived in this sheltered lil universe, and i knew all that was out there......but whoa. i was shocked by the whole thing....
