Trolls

Every now and then someone new pops up on here that people think is a troll or just here to stir up trouble. Everyone gets mad at them and a mini-war starts.

So my question is, if you think someone is just here to be a pain in the arse, why respond at all? Especially, why respond with anger or annoyance? Because if you believe that trouble is what they're here to start, why give them the satisfaction of getting it? They're probably enjoying themselves as we work up steam! I know that being pissed off at stupid people is part of human nature, but I think that overcoming the urge to tell someone just what you think of them is one of the refinements of civilization that GLOs are part of upholding.

Just my 2 cents.

I think it's because it's summertime and the heat makes us all a little cranky. ;)

I am trying to take your advice

There have been a handful of new GCers who have come here to stir up trouble, very true. And let me tell you, I sometimes struggle to ignore threads. But I think that I tell myself that I'm 38 years old and am too old, too tired, too angry to fight with those whose knowledge base is rather limited.

The FREAKS come out in the SUMMER!!

Fuzzie Alum you are my new best friend for starting this thread, lol. Like 99% of the problems on GC could be avoided if people just ignored the troublemakers. Me on the other hand, I like to stir things up now and again, lol. But when people are obviously attention whoring, I usually ignore them.

SATX*APhi 07-16-2003 02:48 PM

I agree with FuzzieAlum. I almost always try to avoid responding to people who obviously come to stir trouble. I know that some of you may not want to ignore these instigators, and if that’s your choice, fine. But why? It is not that difficult to just ignore them and move on to the next thread. If you are one of these people, there is no reason for you to be complaining about this person’s presence on GC when you are only feeding their return to return to GC.

Honestly, cuz there's nothing else exciting goin on in GCland. I suggest that Lifesaver make more exciting threads about his life's stories.

When I saw this thread, I thought it was about those Russ trolls that were so popular in the early 1990s. I really haven't given the people coming on to start drama too much attention.

This is the smartest thread I have seen. It is like therapy for compulsive helpers.

I am proud to say I have not responded to an annoying gc'er for almost 20 hours.

It has been really hard. :D

I just want to add that I'm not trying to hold myself up as a model of deportment. I sometimes feel like Alice in Dilbert, struggling to control my "fist of death," when I read some of the stuff that gets posted!

Understood and I see no hypocrisy. Sometimes I lose it. But it just gets old when you see ignorant, provocative posts on any topic.

PiKA2001 07-16-2003 06:23 PM

Now are you talking about people who post that look like trolls? Cuz ugly can't be fixed, but bad posts can be deleted!
