Lemony Snickett??? for Harry Potter fans

hey you guys

today while browing around target i came across the books by lemony snickett.

they look VERY similar to Harry Potter, and I was wondering if they were in any way related to JK Rowling...as in a pen name or such.

I remember vaguely seeing on her broadcast of the Prince Albert interview in Europe...someone mentioned lemony snickett and she said how nice it would be to be named lemony snickett and that she liked the name...

OR maybe I already forgot but is lemony snickett mentioned as a charachter at all in book 5??????????

well there are a whole series of books by this lemony character and im so curious!!

forgive me is this has already been discussed.

thanks you guys are great! :)

I've read the first 7 books by Lemony Snicket. They're pretty good. His "real name" is Daniel Handler and he wrote "The Basic Eight" (which was a chore to get through)

and he also wrote:
"Watch Your Mouth: A Novel"

I think you mean "Klaus Beaudelaire" (There's 3 kids: Violet, Klaus and Sunny).
The books are cute, but kind of young, whereas HP "grows" with the readers.

I read this book when I was 12 or so called "Wizard's Hall" by Jane Yolen. It is very similar to Harry Potter and was written WAY before hand. I know very little about Harry Potter or Lemony Snickett etc. This was just a funny coincidence to me.

The Lemony Snicket books are great, but nothing like Harry Potter - don't read them expecting them to be like Harry.

I started to read the first Lemony Snickett book. . . but it was just too depressing! I do like the Unauthorized Autobiography, though. . .very funny (including the reverse dust jacket and the obituary to name a few items. :)

I love childrens books....well children too..lol

im studying elementary education and i like to go to the kids section of borders or barnes and nobles and see whats going on. the books are so colorful and great! even the ones with no pictures all have some kinda colorful aire to them.

i have been for a long time debating to write my own childrens book, i have a great story that ive had in my mind for years now...just need to get the ball rolling...
:)

as for this lemony person...nothing can compare to Harry...im obsessed...love all HP books..JK Rowling is still the most brilliant childrens author (or non childrens author...lol) in my opinion :D

I love the Series of Unfortunate Events books! I think one of the things I really like about them is the vocab it uses and how the book explains what the words mean in a way the reader would understand.

I like all the literary references that there's no way any kid would get ... like in one book there is an auction, and Lot 49 is a rare postage stamp, and you have to have read a lot of Thomas Pynchon to catch that one.

What are these books about, anyway? I've never heard of them.

3 orphans are poised to inheirit a lot of money when they reach a certain age, but the evil "Count Olaf" (who is a distant family relative) is constantly dogging them (in various disguises, who the children always recognize but the adults of course never do...sigh) as he is after their fortune. They are constantly befelled by bad luck and when things go well again, well, it's not for long! The books are pretty good actually.....

Thanks, CutiePie2000. I might have to check those out!
