The Difference Between Fall and Spring Rush

Do any sororities have a different fall and spring rush? At Kent fall rush is a series of parties called formal rush which is a 2-week process and during spring rush it's up to the individual sorority as to how they would like to conduct their spring/informal rush.

I go to WVU Tech and we have a fall and spring rush that is up to each individual sorority. My sorority conducts a 2 week rush at the beginning of the fall semester and then an annual invitation dinner as the one big spring event. The other sorority really didn't have a rush. It showed in membership numbers at the end of the year.

Our rush is the same way...a series of 3 parties, pref night and bid day spread out over about a week and a half called formal rush in the fall, and in the spring it is up to each group. Because we have three locals that we are also ompeteing for that don't take part in formal rush, it makes things harder on us if the locals start there pledge classes before we do formal rush..that's why I am happy bid day for us is Sept 24 (first day of calsses is the 2nd)

Question

Say a woman attends a school that has a Fall and Spring Rush, with the Fall being Formal and the the Spring being informal, and she KNOWS she wants to be in ABC sorority...is it to her advantage to go through recruitment in the Fall or Spring?

Still trying to learn about the system....

Our fall rush is formal. The first 2 nights are house tours where they just tour the house, theme day, chapter emphasis, pref tea and then bid night. We only have 5 houses so it goes down a house each night so on pref night you only go upwards of 2 houses for each girl. Then in the spring it's whatever each individual house wants to do.

Well, it depends on whether or not ABC historically achieves quota and campus total during their Formal Recruitment period. If they do, and her heart is set on ABC and only ABC, she'd want to go through Formal (and hopefully keep an open mind, because she may be perfectly happy with ABC, DE, or GHI as well.) I know it can be confusing--but if ABC on her campus is always a quota/total chapter after formal recruitment, odds are they won't be participating in Spring recruitment events.

If ABC historically does not achieve quota and/or campus total, then she may be able to receive a bid during Spring--if ABC didn't fill to quota/total during Continuous Open Recruitment (COR) events during the fall. If this is the case, then it probably wouldn't matter when she rushes because as long as ABC likes her and she has the grades, etc to qualify to receive a bid--she very well may receive a bid.

Clear as mud? :)

Our school has informal Fall rush. Basically, the College Panhel hosts a large info night in our gym. Then each individual organization decided when and if they want to hold events. We have a set date when bids can begin to be handed out, but other than that- each org is free to do anything else they want.
Small detail- you need 16 credits from our college or 12 transfer credits to go throught recruitment (basically, freshman can't rush...unless you were me and took a gazillion AP credits. didn't matter i didn't rush anyway)
Spring is formal. We're still debating how that will be handled this year.:p

Thanks Christin, that does help, believe it or not. :)

Our school has informal recruitment in the fall for sophomores and summer freshmen who have achieved grades and such. In the spring, we have deferred formal recruitment for second semester freshmen and anyone else who wants to go through. The fall period is done during a 2-3 week time, and each sorority has COBs, with a defined bid day at the end. In the spring, it's about a week long, and done with all the formal recruitment rules, etc. After formal is done, we have 2 weeks of COB for those chapters not at total, which is pretty much everyone.

dardenr, often times women will wait to go through informal in the fall so as to avoid the hassles accompanied with formal recruitment, but panhellenic is supposed to discourage women from doing that if possible. I know many a girl who thought that they knew the sorority they wanted and waited to go through informal, only to end up depledging and having to wait a whole year to go through again. I highly recommend formal recruitment if you are eligible :)

we have fall and spring rus too. fall is formal, where you have to pay to rush and it's like 4 or 5 days long where you go to pre-planned parties and TONS of girls see us. spring is when girls who are interested in just us rush with just the sisters informally at events we plan like sports events, dinners, etc etc. generally there is less then 15 or so girls going thru spring rush.
