Getting a Tattoo

Hey im considering gettting a tattoo of my org. (SAE) and was wondering if anyone else has any, and if they do, do they regret it or not. I was thinking about getting a tat of a phoenix which is a lot of symbolic meeting in our house. was wondering what everyone thought. thanks for your thoughts!

i say go for it.

I've got a tatt on my left ankle. It's a state of Texas, colored like a Texas flag, with a big S and N superimposed on it.

Below the Texas is my badge number.

I like the phoenix idea, especially if it has added significance to your chapter. IMO, the best tatts are ones that have meaning behind them and that one sounds cool.

if you mind me asking, how long ago did you get it? my biggest worry is in about 5 years starting to dislike it

i got mine, february of 02, so i've had it for about a year or so.

I still like mine, to me it represents three things i'm extremely proud of, Sigma Nu, Texas and A&M. Those will identify me from now till i die, so i dont' see myself stopping liking it anytime soon.

be careful with placement. obviously this goes for all tattoos.

my story is this... i got a tattoo of a shooting star on my left hip about 4 years ago. it's great and all but i regret putting it where i did because i want another one but the only logical spot to get it is on my right hip cuz one in the center will look funny and since i am a diabetic, my other typical tattoo places are out of question... esp if i wanna hide it.

so BE CAREFUL where you put the tat.

i'm getting my tattoo aug. 21st....it will be the three year anniversary of one of my best friend's deaths....i wanted to get one right after he passed, but my other friend david convinced me to wait for a while so i wouldn't get something tacky right away and regret it.

i've decided on the chinese symbol for "mourned loss"....but i want something extra on it b/c i've seen it before and along with having meaning to it, i want it to be different. he was an SAE at vandy and i want this tattoo to be all about luke and really nothing of myself (like, not with my sorority flowers or anything).....he was a great singer and into theatre and stuff, so i thought about putting the masks on either side (this will be a SMALL tattoo....nothing huge at all), but again....i don't want it to look tacky. -sigh-

fingerbang (can't believe i just typed that....ha), i think your tattoo with your letters on it would be nice. they are your letters....they will always be your letters, so why not? anything with meaning will be good. :)

I have 2 tattoos. I got one about a year ago, and the other about 2 1/2 years ago. I so don't regret either one, and in fact I want to get one or two more! I'm very happy with them and really glad that I did it. :)

Go for it, just remember to get it in a place where it could be hidden if necessary...remember your future job...will they be cool with a big tat on your arm if you plan to work with kids or be a spokesperson?

Not to be conservative, but it's best to think about what "may" happen in the future with your job/career.

I've had my first tattoo for 4 years. I still love it, and I wanted it for 2 years before I actually got it. The only thing is that I regret getting it on my left shoulder because my father would kick me out of the house if he knew I had it. I keep it well hidden around him.

My Phi Mu tattoo has the hand from our badge, the Greek letters, and I still have to add some more on there. I got it on the small of my back and I absolutely love it. I've had it for about a year.

I'd say go with a symbol, rather than your letters. I recently got my third tattoo, and I wanted to associate it with Pi Beta Phi. I did think about getting my letters, but to me it just seemed inappropriate. I decided to get my sorority flower (the wine carnation) instead. There's a beautiful meaning behind our wine carnation and I thought that would be more appropriate than my letters tattooed (but that's just me)

I'm a big fan of tattoos so I say go for, but my advice to you is whatever you do get, make sure it's meaningful to you. It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks as long as you like it, and it's meaningful to you.

eta: I get so excited when there are threads about tattoos. I just love them. I want to get another one, and I just got my third one done a month ago.

I have 8--- I got my first one 10 years ago. (that makes me feel old-- I was 19 then)--- I don't regret my tattoos at all-- I am planning on getting another in about a month.

Placement is very important---think carefully. Make sure the design is something meaningful to you --- if it has meaning you more than likely won't come to regret it.

And another word of advice-- I find them to be addictive-- I love getting them, looking at other people's work, etc. The sound of the tattoo gun (even on tv) makes me want to get more. My husband is the same way--he hears a gun and next thing you know he is in the chair!!!

Good luck!!!

I have two tattoos, a set of Kanji and a butterfly on tribal. A note of caution though, when considering Chinese or Japanese characters, please please please be absolutely sure that it really means what you want it to mean.

A guy in England thought that he was getting a tattoo that honored his family, instead his Chinese characters read "I am a stupid boy."
