Question for any pyschology/med types

Working on a research project for my boss....
I'm looking for resources about the mental and physical abilities of the very elderly (at least over 80). I'm having a tough time, as the science stuff isn't my field. I'm fine as to the legal stuff, but he wants to medical info (he's an expert in elder law) I was wondering if anyone can point me to any journals, articles, books, etc. to give me some direction. Thanks!

Danielle -

Have you tried the AARP?

kddani 07-10-2003 03:06 PM

yes, i've browsed their site. it's pretty much just surface info, don't really give the hard-core stuff that I need. :( It's just one of those days today....

I IM'd my sister, she is a psych major.

She said: Theres all kinds of Journals that can be searched through like psychmate and other psych search engines. A good search method is psych crawler for credible material approved by the APA.
Apparently, APA monitor is a hot source... and can guide you to other souces.
Also , it might help her to know that what she is looking for is called geropsychology in the field..of course - she might already know that... But if not - it will help her search

Hope that it helps.

Update:

No tell her to go to www.psychcrawler.com - there's more stuff here than I can share. Lots of stuff... Search for geropsychology.

Thank you SO much! I'm sure these will definately help, and knowing what's it's actually called (geropsychology) is a HUGE help.
I know how to do legal research like a champ, but this science stuff just throws me a curveball.

Please thank your sister for me too!!!!

And gerontology as a key word.

And geriatrics.

Geriatric centers.

Geriatric research.

etc.

Tufts geriatric center put out a good book called Biomarkers a while ago.

Also, if you are a near a university, all you have to do is look through the proffessor list and find the ones in the psych department that specialise in geriatrics.

A half hour convo with one of them will give you more information than you want or need.
