If Everyone just brings One Friend...

Did anyone read this article in the Phoenix? The one that talks about how if every memeber, alum, etc brought 1 friend to ASA we'd double in size?

I'd LOVE for ASA to double in size, and this is such a great idea-in theory.

I don't know about everyone else, but my friends were very tired of hearing..."Hey, why don't you come check out ASA..."

Our Greek Life director told me that there are 3 kinds of people at a univesity: Those who will never, no matter what go Greek; those who you can't keep from going Greek, and those who are undecided, and it's the undecided that should be targeted.

This brings up my point...our friends are probably not in that undecided category. They have heard all about Greek life from us and have either gone Greek or have gone into the 'never go Greek' category. It would be nice if every ASA could bring a friend, but I'm afraid that it's just not that easy....

They have been telling us that for years - I think almost every other sorority has as well. You are right, in theory it's a wonderful idea, but in practice it has some glitches. I mean I had some friends I loved, but NWIH would I have ever asked them to join as either a) the other sisters didn't get along with them or b)they were not the group-joining type and would have made everyone's life hell.

I think the "bring a friend" concept grew out of saying there are ways to attract members other than through formal rush. We ALWAYS did better in open bidding than formal, but I'm not going to say it was a substitute -we would have liked to have done better in formal too.

MMMMMMMM chocolate. :D

I can tell you why we didn't do well last formal rush:

EVERY (flip over card and hold it up like a cheerleader): Ever means blah blah blah

MEMBER (Flip card): Member means blah blah blah

MAKES (Flip Card): Makes means blah blah blah

A DIFFERENCE (Flip Card): A Difference means blah blah blah...

We were made fun of for that the rest of rush...

oooh Looooord....I'm sure the right people can carry that off, but if you are not bouncy n'at, you will look silly. Is that the pref party or the meet the Greeks party? We didn't have any "scripted" parties in the bygone days.

When I was going through of course pledges were still pledges, but for some reason our rush director said "as a 'provisional member' you will do etc etc" and used the air quotes when she said provisional member. (I believe that came from Phi Sigma Kappa actually, since she was a groupie there and I think that is what they called their pledges.) I think this is the first recorded instance of unfortunate air quotes because all the rushees looked at her like she was insane.

That was Round 1, great first impression, huh?

We had two (high school) cheerleaders in our chapter...other then that...yeah, we looked dumb...
