Man Drives Home With Body In Windshield

Man Drives Home With Body In Windshield

POSTED: 6:56 a.m. EDT July 8, 2003

DELEON, Fla. -- Officials say a Florida motorist drove home with the legless body of a pedestrian in his front windshield before calling 911.

Joseph Markert was crossing a highway in DeLeon Springs Friday night when he was hit by a car driven by Daniel Dradeen.

The medical examiner will determine if Markert survived the impact, but a Volusia County emergency official said it's likely he died immediately.

Dradeen allegedly didn't stop because he didn't have a cellular phone with him and the friend's home where he was staying was only about a mile from the accident site.

Deputies first learned of the accident from bar patrons who reported finding two legs near the parking lot.

Police said the driver was not impaired and no hit-and-run charges will be filed, but a homicide investigator will review the case.

That's the least that he could have done.

That's still no excuse! What on Earth possesses someone to drive around with a HUMAN BODY in their windshield? What happened to stopping and flagging down help? How about driving to a hospital? I just don't know....

Jesus, we need you DESPERATELY here on Earth!!

I'm trying to see if I enjoyed your cynisism. I don't think I did. This is not a laughin' matter, nor is it something that should be taken lightly. People are sick in the minds. I'm blessed to have peace of mind...these budget cuts are affecting so many people-driving them to do things like this. Futhermore, that could have been you on that windshield. God has no respect a person...be mindful of that. Thank you Jesus, for blessing with NEW MERCIES because that could have been me. GCers, God is definitely trying to get OUR attention. We need to PRAY!

And I thought driving home with someone in the windshield was something I'd NEVER hear about, no less once...NO LESS TWICE.

THAT would have been the right thing to do! Evidently if someone found his LEGS at a bar...he was not in the wilderness somewhere. I think he should still be prosecuted for leaving the scene! How do they know that he was actually driving? He could have drove his drunk butt home and got his brother to call and say it was him and it was an accident! There is no reason to leave the scene of an accident in a populated area, none! I'm sorry...this isn't about your convenience, how does he know that the man was dead? How did he know that that MILE driven could have been time that could have saved his life? There are too many 'what ifs'.

Maybe I am just mean-spirited or something, but I just think that stupidity isn't a defense.

NO charges will be filed? WHY?
"Deputies first learned of the accident from bar patrons who reported finding two legs near the parking lot. "

If the driver only was staying a MILE away from the accident site, how in the hell did bar patrons hap upon the legs before he was able to notify police? Smells fishy to me!

I think I am laughing more at the irony.

In reality. I am not sure why the guy drove home. He was probably in shock. Thats an extremely . . . unusual . . . thing to have happen.

Its not something the brain is prepared to process well.

Or pulling over to a pay phone and dialing 911. Last time I checked THAT call was free. Maybe he was in shock....

blutifulRho 07-10-2003 05:05 PM

Ok i dont know how much more news like this i can take....
I mean first with the woman in her windsheild ...now this guy...then i read recently about a mother putting her child in a washing machine(thankfully the police was able to save the child before she drowned...Thank God)...then another story about a mother dumping her twin daughters in the Mississippi River....its all too much:confused:
