Pref Songs
 

Hey,

Do any of you all have special songs your chapter sings for preference events. We're trying to spif up our pref and were hoping to find some new songs to sing. Right now we sing Pass it On and Come and Make My Heart Your Home. We'll probaby keep those, but we need something new to sing when the PNM walk in right now we sing, Sigma-Tri, and it doesn't sound good, we sing it too slowly. Just so you know if goes to the tune of Adelweis from the Sound of Music. Thanks for your help.

My chapter used to (and still does) hum "in the light" as the PNMs are walking in and then we sing it as they're walking out....

I just thought of another song my chapter started using after I left during recruitment. They use it as an entry song during Skit Night.

Not sure of the tune, really, but here goes...

You and me we're gonna be sisters

You and me we're gonna be sisters
Sisters are we in Sigma Three.

Everyone's standing in a line when they do this, waiting for the PNMs to come in, and they use this cute little hand clap motion, too, that's hard to explain.

For some reason, I think it's the cutest song and it always gets stuck in my head for days after I hear it.

They also use "Boom, Boom" as during recruitment, too....

we always sing the "spark" song. there are 2 versus to it but i only remember the first one.
it only takes a spark
to get a fire going
and soon all those around

that's how it is with sigma

to everyone
we want to pass it on

Hello there -
I remember one particular year for rush that our chapter put a ton of time into - the whole week our theme was "Sigma-rella" and the point of that was when a girl decided to go Sigma, she would be treated like a princess. For pref night, we had three sisters re-write "A Whole New World"... you know, the song from Alladin? (<---is that how you spell it?! who knows....)
Anyways, the words are packed in a box somewhere, but it went something like this:

"We can show you the world...
the sisterhood of Tri-Sigma -
Tell me rushees, now when did you last let your heart decide?
We can open your eyes,
show you wonder by wonder"
......(these lines I forgot - it's been awhile)

(chorus)
"A Sigma World
A new fantastic point of view
We'll take you anywhere,
there's time to spare
Let us share of Sigma World with you"

I could dig it up if you have an interest in this, or I could email one of our sisters. We have a slew of songs given we have a few music majors in the sisterhood.

We sing Violets and Pass It On

We do "Days of Tri Sigma" (my personal favorite), "One Little Candle", and "In the Light" during pref. We do "Days of Tri Sigma" as they are coming in. We sing "In the Light" after the Pearl Ceremony while waiting for the PNM's to join us in the circle. We sing "One Little Candle" after they have joined us in the circle and we are lighting their candles with ours. It was a real tear jerker this year.:)

We do the boom boom song differently Ours goes:

there are a ton of songs in "Songs Sigmas Sing", including all the words to A Whole New World

Some of the pref songs I remember are:
Forever Sisterhood-easy to sing and in the songbook
Violets
Friends by Michael W. Smith- we also learned sign language to the chorus
In the Light
One Little Candle
Pass It On
Bonded Together
Sigma Sisters-this is a local song-not in the song book
Linger
