ABC has cancelled the soap opera "Port Charles."

The daytime drama, which debuted in 1997 as a spinoff of "General Hospital," will run through Oct. 3.

Brian Frons, president of ABC Daytime, says that making a half-hour show cost too much.

The popularity of daytime soaps has been on a steady decline for more than a decade - losing out to talk shows and judge shows in the ratings.
