Being Southern
 

i know that in being Southern, we get a lotta crap. made fun of for farmer tans, having red-necks, all driving big pick em up trucks, the way we talk, and our bad racist history. but not all things Southern are bad or worthy of being made fun of.

in the South, we do indeed have Southern Belles (where i am from, just as a sidenote, we have Azalea Trail Maids....srs in hs who are picked throughout Mobile, AL to be kind of ambassadors to visitors to the city.....)

i had already moved to KY when my sr year rolled around, so i missed out on it. believe it or not, it's a huge deal and a BIG honor....not everyone gets picked and it's cut-throat.

in general, Southern gals do have a special charm about them....esp old Southern ladies.....true class and elegance when they're 80 makes them still seem like young women.

Southern hospitality....can't find it everywhere, so don't kid yourselves. ;)

Southern Gentlemen....oh yes, and these, too, really do exist! a Southern man always holds the door open for all women...no matter how old, young, cute, busted they are. they always show respect, remove their hat in a building/when meeting parents, and just in general are nice guys. they basically know when they are in the presence of a lady, and act accordingly.

the South has beaches, mountains, sun and snow......a billion different types of culture.....a strong and proud history to counter our weak and disappointing one (disappointing in that my ancestors could be like that, not that we lost or whatever....for those of you who may like to blow that up)

i love being Southern, i am proud to be Southern........so, yay being from the South!

oh come ON, y'all...those dresses be stylin....LOL... ;)

but for real, it is a major deal down there to be an ATM......have to go through a whole interview process, must have a good GPA, and they only take 50 girls from all the mobile area. have over a 1000, i think, apply for it. my best friend from middle school was "queen" and she was the only one with the pink dress (i hate pink, so there's NO WAY i would've wanted to be queen)...the other colors you can have are blue, green, yellow, purple, and peach (all pastels). needless to say, i was quite the unhappy gal when we moved and i was unable to do it....i had looked forward to being one since i was 9. :(

and don't you worry, rudey.....they only wear the dresses at certain events. they are at the airport when important guests come into town, they are "decoration" around bellingrath gardens (this huge, beautiful piece of property down there....grand old house with lots of gardens....amazing), and they also do macy's and disney world parades. basically, they are a representation of the beautiful South.....they are nothing but gracious at ALL times.....i dunno....it's weird. they have this lil curtsey (sp?...bad spelling today....) they do and everything....it's neat-o. :D

chicks also have pictures made for the back of their yrbooks in their ATM undies....they have to have the complete get-up....the dress, the hat, the gloves, the parasol, and the pantalettes (sp?). ppl go nuts.....but the dresses cost over $500, so ya know. i guess i'd have my pic in every aspect of that outfit if i paid that much, too. ;)

Funny, in my almost 25 years in the South, I've never been in a home that didn't have electricity and running water. You can keep your slutty girls, though! We're better off without them!! ;)
