Summertime Eats and Recipes!!!

Summer is here and in full effect and one thing that I love about summer is all the tastes of various cities and counties that go on! I also love to cook, especially in the summertime when I can cook the dishes that I don't ordinarily have time to cook. Gumbo has become one of my favorite dishes but I just don't know how to cook it myself!! My questions are.....

1. What do you absolutely love to eat in the summertime?

2.What are some good gumbo recipes???

3. Have you tried something new lately? If so what did you have and would you recommend it to others?

I'll go first....

1. Bar-b-cue and fruit

2. Don't know, asking others for help with that one!!

3. I recently tried alligator....it was very salty and I just really didn't care for it. When I was about to taste it I was told it taste like chicken. You heard it here first, EVERYTHING DON'T TASTE LIKE CHICKEN!!

I like to eat light in the summer, so for me it would be:

1. Salad(any kind)
2. Zuchini or yellow squash
3. Chicken.......baked, broiled or bobbyq'd
4. Certain Fruits
5. I drink a lot more juices and water
6. Sammiches, with more mustard than mayo
7. Fish usually baked

Alligator does something "funny" to my stomach! I guess when you introduce "foreign" foods to the body, it reacts in a crazy way. I do think that I will eat it again.

1. HOT, SPICY CRAWFISH!!

2. Gumbo is not a summertime food. I don't cook it and I DO NOT eat it from everyone. Only a small percentage of people can cook good gumbo. I don't trust everyone. Anyone can call thier brown soupy substance "gumbo," but it takes more than just a name to make it such.

3. I am not too adventurous with food, so I can't recommend anything....

CT4, alligator is actually really good. I think you should try it. I don't know of any good restaurants that serve it but I think you should definitely look into it. Just try it you might like it.;)

Winglets are fast summer food:

Get a bag of winglets. You can use about half the bag.
Clean the chicken with vinegar. Then rince with water. Season well and leave over night to marinate in lemon juice. Add a tablespoon of sugar in with the seasoning.

In the morn/next day, batter with flour. deep fry in a medium pot, take out and place on papertowel.

Summer time Eats

Wata melon fo sho!! Can eat it all day and night!!

I don't do gumbo in the summer because I like to cook it on the stove and not the crockpot. But anything I can put on the grill is fair game - shrimp, chicken, steak, vegis and don't forget a hot dog with some black on it!!

I also like salads. Especially one that isn't too heavy. My favorite is a greek salad with leaf lettuce (opt), tomatoes, fresh basil, kalamta olives, feta cheese, capers. The dressing is a olive oil, balsamic vinegar and lemon juice combo. Da bomb.

1. Things I like to eat in the summer are watermelon, pasta salad, fruit salad, just about any salad with a light dressing, grilled vegetables, citrus fruits, melons, marinated veggies, when I do eat meat then I'll grill a piece of fish, and being from Maryland gotta get some crabs.
