Retreat

What are some good activities to do at a summer retreat?

SigEp_Stud 06-28-2003 06:04 PM

go somewhere isolated, make a bonfire, sit around te fire, talk about past experiences, older members pledge days, how to improve the chapter, the girl that everyone is doing but nobody wants to admit it, what the next party is gonna be like, and add some beer in there if you want

Is it a working retreat or a sisterhood retreat, or a mix?

Talk about goals for the upcoming year

Kevin 06-30-2003 01:09 AM

We usually rent a hotel conference room somwhere close. The officers and usually at least one alum (to moderate) sit down and write out all the goals for the upcoming year. All dates are finalized on the master calendar and an outline of all activities for the coming year is written.

The goal is to ensure that all officers are on the same page and working towards a common goal. It's also important that everyone knows what their individual role is in the success of the chapter.

some random ideas

At a retreat (setting was a county park large cabin)... there were several things going on at the same time and members rotated through the areas:

1) craft making area - making badge boxes
2) adviser question area
3) open (recess, outside if weather is nice, snacks provided)
4) sisterhood exercises (example below)

For sisterhood exercises, the favorite was using a large piece of paper (like from a flipchart), taping each to the walls around the room, with just a member's name at the top, each member is given a marker, told to stand by her paper, but to start out, each member moves to the next paper, and asked to write something positive about the person who's name is at the top, then after a few minutes, everyone advances to the next paper, etc, etc,. At the end, the member stops at her own paper and can read what everyone wrote about her. The goal is also for people to avoid repeating comments already written down. So, at each "stop", the member has to read everything already written down, and then think of something else positive to write down.

Good luck !
