Convention in one month!!

I'm soooo excited about convention! :D :D This will be my first one...AND...I'm going all by myself, flying from Memphis. I'm a bit scared...I'm hoping other sisters will be at the airport so I can have a travel buddy.

I'm so excited about how many sisters I'm going to meet!! :D :D

Who on here will be going? (I know I've already asked that but just thought I'd ask again...besides...this forum has been dead lately!)

Re: Convention in one month!!

I'll be there! In fact, I just bought my dress for the Dinner of Honors last night. :D I'm sure you'll find a sister at the airport...just be sure to wear your badge!

Ooh, what does your dress look like??

Mine is one I bought to wear to our SAI-PMA Formal that ended up getting cancelled...it's not super fancy...it's floor-length, and it's a light pinky-peach color that fades down to dark coral. No sparkle or gems or anything...but I have some pretty jewelry and hair clippies to go with it. And a very cute little purse to go with it. :D

I love dressing up! :D

That sounds very pretty! I'm sorry your formal got canceled, but at least you get to wear the dress to convention!

My dress is dark red and very l-o-n-g. It has a plunging neckline and spaghetti straps that cross in back. It's very elegant - the sort of thing I could imagine Catherine Zeta Jones wearing. I can't wait to wear it - I'm such a girl! :D

I'm flying from Tallahassee to Memphis and then to Detroit! Maybe we'll be on the same flight!

What is this about a formal for the Dinner of Honors? Is this just for some, or does everyone go to this?

I have been told VERY little about the whole convention, so I really don't know whats going on. If there is something yall think i might need to know please tell me!!!
Thanks!! :)

Wow, that'd be great if we were on the same flight, because I've been posting on the LIstserv trying to find *someone* that's flying from Memphis. Let's cross our fingers! :)

Everyone can go to the Dinner of Honors. Are you a delegate? If so than your registration fee paid for it. I've been told that attire for the Dinner is "quite dressy" and that most sisters wear formals.

The Dinner of Honors is a formal, sit-down dinner. It features dinner (of course), a keynote speaker, and presentation of national awards. It's a very special night, and everyone may attend. Cost is $50. I would definitely go - you don't want to miss it!

As for the rest of Convention, the biggest piece of advice I can give is this: bring LOTS of clothing! I normally travel very light, but for convention you can never bring too many changes of clothing. In a typical day, you will change about three times - business attire for meetings, nicer dress for evening events, and casual wear for just hanging out.

Here's a quick and dirty guideline for what to wear:

*Meetings and seminars (daily)- business attire with badge
*Opening Ceremony/Birthday Party (Thurs night)- cocktail dress.
*Welcome Luncheon (Friday) - Business attire from morning meetings or 1903 period dress, from what I understand.
*Friday and Saturday night recitals (I'll have to see what is on which night) - cocktail dress
*Day trip to Ann Arbor - normally these are pretty casual, but I'm guessing this one will be a little dressier, since we're doing a rededication ceremony at UMich. I'm going to wear a nice polo dress from Banana Republic...casual yet dressy. :)
*Philanthropies Benefit Concert (Sunday night?) - In general, dressier than the other concerts. Some people will wear formal attire, although it's not de rigueur.
*Dinner of Honors (Monday night) - Very formal. Expect to see ball gowns, glitz, beading, etc..

Hope that's of some help!

Oh wow! Thanks so much! I would have been way under packed if it hadn't been for yall! It looks like I have some serious shopping in my future :D

sairose 07-01-2003 11:45 PM

hey

Hey Browneyedgal!!

Got my itenerary today. My flight leaves at 9:50am. Have you found out yours yet? I really hope we're on the same flight, or that an SAI out there somewhere will be on the flight...I just would feel better having a travel buddy(or sister). :D

browneyedgal 07-02-2003 10:23 PM

Aww...I'll just miss you! I leave at 8:30. Anybody else on that filght???

RedRoseSAI 07-15-2003 04:51 PM

So, with all the chit-chat we've been doing all over GC re: Convention, how about we meet up and see each other in person while we're there? My mornings are already booked, but maybe we can hang out post-meeting/pre-dinner sometime?

sairose 07-15-2003 04:55 PM

Yeah, that'd definately be cool! When'd be a good time?

browneyedgal 07-18-2003 05:22 PM

Sounds good to me :)

sairose 07-18-2003 05:24 PM

Okay...so....when and where are we gonna meet? Actually I am fixing to PM both of you so check your PM boxes! :)

RedRoseSAI 07-24-2003 01:25 PM

Ok, so we're all set to meet on Friday morning, right after the morning General Session at my seat!
