application
hey y'all,
I am going to SMU in Dallas, Texas next year. I am a legacy for Kappa, but I'm not sure what I need to do to apply and so forth. It is a spring rush but I know some people who are allready sending things in. I'm not sure what sorority i want to join yet, because I haven't met very many of the girls yet. But from what I have been told from my mother and grandmother (the legacies) I need to go ahead and send in an application even though I am not even an offical student yet. What should I do? Thanks! Contact your school's Greek Life office. They should be able to give you information. The information may also be availible on your school's Panhellenic website.
Oh, and you might try to start gatering recs. Ask around to women you know (your mom's friends and former teachers might be great resources) and see if they were in a group with a chapter on your campus. Then see if any of the women in a group would be willing to write a letter of reccomendation to that chapter. Also, over this next semester, be warned. Whatever you do this semester will end up reflecting on you in Recruitment, as the sisters will likely be keeping their eye out for good potential sisters and those who are less desirable. Try to behave as though a Kappa's eye is on you all the time- you never know when it will be. Also, try hard to keep your grades up this semester. This is also your chance to keep an eye on the girls in particular sororities. How do they behave? Are they together a lot, and do they seem to be genuinely friends with each other? Observing things like this will help you get to know the girls better outside the somewhat fake atmosphere of recruitment. What's SMU? Southern Methodist University, or something like that? What other groups are on campus? |
sherbertlemons, I tried to PM you, but your box was full.

I think I emptied my box. Try again. :)

Kappa Legacies
Dear Meredith:
Congratulations! SMU is one fabulous school! And by the way, KKG's Gamma Phi chapter at SMU is one fabulous Kappa chapter! We always love to see Kappa legacies go through Recruitment. We do hope you hold a special place for Kappa in your heart, but at the same time, we wish for you a Recruitment that leads you to where you feel most comfortable--if that's a Kappa bid, then we are, of course, thrilled! If it's a bid from another sorority on campus, or no sorority at all--we are happy for you so long as you are happy! With close to 130,000 alumnae, we have thousands of legacies--and we often have more legacies than spaces in a new member class. Kappa cannot guarantee a space for every legacy, just as every legacy can't guarantee a committment to Kappa! TO ENSURE THAT SMU'S KAPPA CHAPTER KNOWS YOU ARE A LEGACY, your Kappa relative (sister, aunt, mother, or grandmother) will need to fill out a Legacy Notification Form for you and submit it to the chapter. They can get one of these forms by: * logging on to www.kappa.org and downloading it from the sisters-only side of the site, * cutting it out of their most recent issue of The Key, or * calling 1-866-KKG-1870 and requesting that one be sent to them. They may also want to attach a letter describing you, your resume, and a good photo of you. This makes it easier for chapter members to "get to know you" even before you show up at the Chapter house for the first Recruitment Function. Once they fill this out this form, they need to submit it to (for the SMU chapter): KKG 3110 Daniel Avenue Dallas, Texas 75205-1436 The sooner the better, but definitely no later than December 1, 2003 . Hope this is helpful! We wish you the best! PLEASE keep us updated on your Recruitment experience! |
