Being in more than one GLO

Why is it that NPC sororities allow their members to also be members of local sororities? To me that makes no sense. Aren't you only supposed to be a member of one sorority?

Do you mean simultaneously, or at 2 different campuses?

Ok so I think I know the awnser to your question... :) I believe that NPC allows you to be in other GLO's but they can't be social. Like I could be part of Alpha Phi, and I could also be part of Alpha Phi Omega (a national service fraternity). When it comes to locals I think that the same rules apply because they are not national. I hope that awnsers your question, if I am wrong ppl let me know.

Couple of reasons.

1) If a local joins a national, how else can the members be initiated?

2) If someone transfers campuses, she may still wish to be a part of a sisterhood, and obviously there won't be a chapter of her local there.

3) Some locals (by no means all or even the majority) are groups that start and falter fast (I'm talking months) - the women don't really experience sorority life or sisterhood at all. Technically, they are maybe full members, but in reality their experience is more akin to a pledge period.

On many campuses, the local Panhellenic forbids women to join both a local and an NPC (basically, the local is treated as if it were an NPC member). Personally, I think more campuses should have this.

a woman can be in more than one org like I am.

I am a Phi Sigma Sigma, which is a SOCIAL NPC sorority.

I am a Tau Beta Sigma, which is a HONORARY MUSIC sorority.

I am a Beta Sigma Phi, which is a COMMUNITY sorority not affiliated with a college campus.

I could also be a member of a SPECIAL INTEREST, SERVICE or other HONORARY orgs as long as they are not in the same department (hence I cannot be a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma's brother org)

yes, there is the social npc, nphc, music, and other kinds of sororities. you can be in them simultaneously. for instance though, you cannot be a phi beta sigma and a kappa alpha psi (they both belong to nphc)

^^So, is your plan to go back to the very beginning of all threads in the Greek Life forum and bump each of them? Just curious.
