Kappa Alpha Psi kicked off campus for hazing
BREAKING NEWS: Kappa Alpha Psi kicked off campus for hazing
UA's first black fraternity gone until 2005 From staff reports June 23, 2003 Kappa Alpha Psi, the University's first nationally recognized black fraternity, has been suspended for two years after pleading guilty to hazing violations, UA officials announced Monday. The University suspended the group retroactively from April 2 until spring 2005, and the fraternity will be on probation until spring 2007. The fraternity's national organization also suspended the UA chapter. The fraternity pleaded guilty before a hearing that was scheduled for Monday morning. The hearing was to be held before a panel consisting of two UA staff members and a member of the Student Judicial Board. The fraternity's president, Carl Davis, could not immediately be reached for comment. Kappa Alpha Psi will not be allowed to participate in greek activities or recruit new members during its suspension. The group will also lose its house. The Office of Student Judicial Affairs completed its investigation of the fraternity earlier this month but has not released the specifics of its findings. Kappa Alpha Psi, chartered in 1975, had 34 active members in spring 2003, according to records from the Office of the Dean of Students. The fraternity had a troubled year in 2002-03. Shots were fired outside its house in August after two men tried to force their way into a party. The group also had the lowest grade point average out of 25 campus fraternities in fall 2002 with a 1.874. Kappa Alpha Psi's GPA was the second-lowest among 26 fraternities this spring with a 2.103. Assistant Dean of Students Todd Borst said earlier this month that the University would not sanction the group for its GPA but that it could be penalized by its national chapter. edited to add: Let me rephrase what I wrote since I had a general idea of what that statement ment anyway, You know, I won't do that. I will however say and I'll keep it short, based on the comments you've made on other forum regarding race, it seems obvious to me (and a few others on GC) that you have a PROBLEM with people of other races If I am wrong, please correct me. If this is so, why do you post here on GC? We want intelligent debate, fun stuff, silly stuff, exchange of ideas, etc.. What we DON"T WANT or NEED is racial hatred or the promotion of it. Blatent or otherwise. If you (or anyone else) don't like the diversity here on GC, then LEAVE. It's as simple as that. |
seriously, what does the affirmative action ruling have to do with this? or is it just another poorly define stereotypes?

What does it mean? |
It's a shame to see another fraternity chapter suspended...although I'd have to guess, with the low GPAs, that Kappa Alpha Psi's national body would have probably taken some sort of action if the University didn't.
Hopefully they'll come back strong after suspension. |

Betcha the agitator wouldn't have the testicles (yeah, I said it) to post such a comment in Kappa Korner.

As another graduate from the University of Michigan, I say ditto to what Zchi2 said.
Side note: Even though the affirmative action policies do help if you're a minority, it takes ALOT more to get into UofM and to get you out (graduated) then just that. Im proud that I went to UofM. I refuse to have some idiots tell me that I got in there soley because of some AA policy, when I busted my a$$ off working hard from grades 6-12, and then busted it through four more years of college to graduate from one of the best schools in the country. Ok, Im off my lil soapbox and sorry for the rant, but I was a freshman at UofM when this whole thing started and after almost 6 years of hearing about it, seeing the protest, yada yada....it gets old and tiring real quick. :) |
