What about formal recruitment at your school...
Here's a barrage of recruitment questions for ADPis:
For you collegians and alumnae advisors: when does your school participate in formal rush? How many pms go through recruitment at your school? Which other GLOs are on your campus? What do you think your chapter enjoys most about recruitment? Just thought I'd get some rush talk going around here! violets :D |
Re: What about formal recruitment at your school...
Okay, at Valparaiso University, formal recruitment occurs the second week in January (usually around the 10th or so). There's usually about 70-80 women going through recruitment at that time.
The other sorority GLO's are: Gamma Phi Beta Pi Beta Phi Delta Delta Delta Chi Omega Kappa Kappa Gamma Kappa Delta Fraternity GLO's: Lambda Chi Alpha Theta Chi Sigma Tau Gamma Sigma Pi Phi Mu Alpha Sigma Chi Phi Kappa Psi Sigma Phi Epsilon Phi Delta Theta Phi Sigma Kappa I would hope that my collegiate chapter enjoys meeting the new women coming through the doors and spending time with their sisters. I know it's a tough week, and we all get (and got, when I was still in school) stressed out and snippy with one another, but I always enjoyed the entire week spending time with everyone and going through the experience together. Our chapter is not that strong with formal recruitment, however, so we do our best to pick up some quality PNM's, and then focus on preparing for COR immediately afterwards! |
USC (Southern Cal, not south carolina)
Alpha Psi Chapter We rush for five days over labor day weekend, starting on the Thurday before with two conversation days, a house tour day, a slide show day, preference, and then bid day on tuesday. The other GLO's are: Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Phi Delta Delta Delta Delta Gamma Gamma Phi Beta Kappa Alpha Theta Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Last year something like 650 girls went through rush, and quota was something like 52, I think. I don't know what my chapter enjoys most about rush, because it will be my first year rushing from this side!!!! I am so excited and I am bound and determined to get all the quality girls I can into our wonderful sisterhood! |
Our formal recruitment begins 2 weeks after school begins. Up until this year, they did it for 5 straight days; but panhel decided to do it differently this year. We are doing Rotationals and Philanthropy night one weekend and then the following weekend Skit night Preference and Bid Day. This kind of sucks because it allows for dirty rushing during the week between, but they don't think that one weekend is enough time to make an informed decision  i don't like it, but that's the way it is. last year we had almost 300 girls go through rush. these are the other sororities on campus:
Delta Gamma Gamma Phi Beta Kappa Delta Alpha Delta Pi Sigma Kappa and I believe Sigma Sigma Sigma might be colonizing in the next couple years. we also have 14 fraternities, the main ones being: Pi Kappa Alpha Sigma Chi Delta Sigma Phi Sigma Phi Epsilon Phi Delta Theta This will be my first year doing formal recruitment with the sorority, and they say it's HELL every night for 2 weeks, but they also say it's one of the most bonding and memorable times you'll have with your sisters, so i'm pretty pumped about it. I gotta question; panhel also decided to make the pnm's wear recruitment shirts for the first two nights of rush. this is the first year doing that. do any of y'all's college panhellenics do that too? ~kelly |

Formal Recruitment is the week before classes start which this year will be Aug. 20th-23rd...and bid day will be on the 24th... Usually about 200 start in recruitment...but only about 140 make it to the end of the week...(people drop out cause they just dont feel comfortable) Sororities on Campus Other than ADPi are: Chi Omega Gamma Phi Beta Pi Beta Phi Alpha Omicron Pi Delta Delta Delta Kappa Delta Chi (does not particapate in formal recruitment though) Gamma Alpha Omega (does not particapate in formal recruitment and is still waiting to be voted on to see if the local panhell will recognize them) My chapter has always been a real fan of out skit night...I think the other thing we have been really excited about is a few years back our chapter size had dwindled greatly...so we had lots of IOs in trying to help us (we didnt have an advisor)...then two years ago one that had been helping us so closely came and stood infront of us and said that we didnt need her anymore...Almost the entire chapter burst into tears...we actually also had one of our best recruitments that fall... Oh and about the shirts...On our campus it is not done to try to have all pms wear the same shirt...but I also dont think that would go over real well, cause we are not a campus that is known for greek life and in turn a lot of our women are not sure what they are getting into to start with and I think it would scare them off.... |
