Pledge Pins

Hey yall!

So I was thinking back to my pledging yesterday and it reminded me of how proud I was to wear the pledge pin. Did you get to keep yours? My chapter didn't allow us to keep ours - they had to be handed in and reused for the next year's new members.

I was just curious because given the chance, I would have liked to keep mine as a momento. I see that you can buy them but it's still not the same.

Just curious:D

We turned ours in, too. It would be nice to have it as a memento, but I guess the point of being initiated is that you don't 'need' the peldge pin anymore because you know the true meaning behind that badge and that is all the pin you will ever need!!!! :D :p Although, then we could pass down our pledge pins to our legacies like we do our badges!!!

On a similar note...did yall have the Carnations thingy...like you got a Carnation for Bid Day, Formal Pledging, Senior Ceremony...and there were others but I can't remember them!

no one gets to keep their pledge pins.

and what you're talking about is carnations of a lifetime, you were supposed to get 5 carnations throughout your time as an active in chi omega, i believe it was: bid day, pledging, initiation, senior ceremony and i can't remember the last one, anyone? a little help? pledge formal maybe?

If I am not mistaken I think you get one for Big/Lils. Or perhaps it's during Inspiration Week sometime (I was GM, you'd think I would remember?!?!). I don't think it's for a formal becaus not every pledge class has a formal during their pledge semester.

you're right, it is big/sis revelation, i don't recall getting one for that tho..

okay, so its bid day, formal pledging, big sis rev, initiation and senior ceremony.

Carnations of a lifetime?? I have definitely never heard of that in our chapter. We got carnations for bid day, some get it for big/little and then we got it for initiation. But our seniors didn't get carnations. Hmmmmm. . .now I am curious.

Yeah Carnations for a Lifetime...they gave us some poster board sized thing that allowed you to keep track of them....like we always got a little tag attatched to our carnation (like it showed on the picture) and it'd say "Formal Pledging CW September 7, 1998"

I didn't keep the poster....I never got to go through my Senior Ceremony :( I was in Austin.

I never heard of it either. Although a neat idea.

Yes, I wish now I had my pledge ribbon and pin. I never thought of it till I was way out of college. I did not pay for them so I never gave it a second thought that I entitled to them.

I did go on ebay and buy one...I paid 3x more than what even a brand new one costs It is worth it- eventhough it was not my original one- it still brings back the memories :)

Carnations for a Lifetime... I really like that idea!

Carnations for a Lifetime is a newer tradition, Sue. I think it started in the mid-90's? For the ladies who aren't doing it now, your GM should have the information on it. It's a really nice idea and, lucky for Chi Omega, carnations are cheap so it's not difficult to do either! :)
