question about Phi Mu
Hello Ladies,
I'm sorry for crashing your board but i had a question. Is Phi Mu primarily established on the east coast. I live in california and i havent seen many Phi Mu chapters out here. I'm currently part of a local chapter looking to affilate with a national org (we are associate memebers of panhellenic). I'm panhellenic delegate for my chapter and I love doing research about the 23, other then our 3 national orgs. Phi Mu seems to grab my attention. But we'll see what happens. Sorry for all the un-neccessary 411 i'm just trying to get as much information as i can so when chapters do come to our campus i'm already on the ball. Thanks |
Phi Mu and extension possibilities
The best place to start is with the Phi Mu Executive Office. Phi Mu has had a great many chapters in western states, but it has its roots in the southeastern part of the US. As a consequence, it has a larger alumnae base in those states.
What campus are you on? If it is a campus where Phi Mu once had a collegiate chapter, that makes things a bit easier as well. Pam |
Phi Mu is primarily located in the southeast but don't let geography hinder you. I went to college in PA and there are several Phi Mu chapters in that state - even though it's not the south. The only CA chapter that I can think of is in Fresno but I know there was once a chapter at UCLA as well as some other campuses. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Closed Chapters in CA:
Iota Sigma, USC Eta Alpha, UC Berkley Eta Delta, UCLA Eta Theta, San Jose State Eta Kappa, Humbolt State University Eta Mu, UC-Davis As you can see, the lack of California chapters isn't because we didn't give it a try! There has not been a new CA chapter since 1974 (UC-Davis), though. And as lionlove said, the only active chapter in CA is at Fresno State. If you go to any of the above schools though, you could look into reopening. And if you aren't, it's still worth looking into- I'm sure the ladies at Fresno would love to have someone else join them for State Day :p |
Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate it. Unfortunetly I dont go to any of those schools. I go to Sonoma State University. At we have a samll campus with a small greek life, however it has been increasing rapidly. I understand affiliating a national is difficult especially givin my circumstances.
I look foward to seeing what happens for our future, and maybe Phi Mu will someday be an option. I have enjoyed learning about Phi Mu and i get a sense of strong sisterhood and unity and thats what we are all about. Thanks again |
