Cross Country Road Trip

Hey guys I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas to help me out. I'm moving out to Cali in September for grad school and me and 2 of my sorority sisters are gonna road trip from Boston out there to take all car and all my stuff. Just wondering if you guys had any ideas for a route. We were thinking we could stay at different schools with adpi chapters so we wouldnt have to pay for hotels. Has anyone done that?? Are other chapters normally receptive to let people crash on their couches for a night?

Hmm, that's a toughie...I would think it would depend on whether or not other sisters are in the house over the summer, or if they rent it out over the summer. This seems to be the kind of thing you should have set up while school was still in session instead of now? You could just try your luck, but if you happen to be in a state where you only have 1 chapter, and that's the one you hope to crash at, hmm, you may need to call ahead a few days!

Interesting thing, though! I wish you lots of luck!

I think most people are back in school in September, so the only problem I could see is if it was recruitment, which it might be. I would try contacting the chapters in early August to see if it would be okay.

I've only crashed at one other chapter, that was Gamma (in Madison, not far from my school) while I was visiting a sister in the hospital with some other sisters. They were so nice to us - it was finals week and they still let us stay, fed us, and hung out with us.

sigmagrrl is on drugs today...I didn't see you said SEPTEMBER! Pardon my duffiness!

BUT, my advice still holds. Call ahead. But first, map your trip, then plot the houses you could possibly crash at onto that route...

Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes alumnae will be around and available to lend you space. :) Don't forget about alumnae associations-- post to the Pride Online or to the groups.msn.com/alphadeltapi boards, and you should get some additional offers of space.

From PA I'd think you would likely take 80/90 at least through Chicagoland, which would take you past Valpo, but they're about 30 mins away from the I-road and don't have a house and don't really have an on-campus corridor next year. Dunno whether you'd take the same route from Boston or not.

Heck, pop it into mapquest and see what it suggests for fastest route, and start from there?

Congrats! Which school will you attend?

I'm going to Cal Poly Pomona, north (i think) of LA.

Kate: good call about the alumni assoc. I should post something on the MSN message board, I'm just looking for ideas. But I'll be leaving from Boston (which is my home during the summer) and I think what I'll do is drive to Meadville which is 10 hrs away and stay with my own chapter :). Then who knows what. I'm excited!

I'd go through AAA. Give them the places where you want to stop, and they can map out the route.

I've been cross-country twice, and both times my family got the maps from AAA. You have to be a member I believe, but it's well worth it.

This won't really help you with your trip across country...but just finished my teaching credential at Cal Poly, Pomona (it's se of LA)! I also went there as an undergrad. If you have any questions about the school/ area let me know!

There is not an ADPi chapter there, but there is one about 30 minutes away...at Cal State San Bernardino. I'm an advisor to the ZTA chapter there.
