Meeting a potential alum initiate...what should I ask?
Hey!
I'm meeting a potential alum initiate for dinner tonight, and I'm wondering if there's anything in particular (about Alpha Phi or wanting to join a Fraternity) I should ask her? I remember what I was asked, but I just wanted to hear from others. Thanks! |
I'm curious on this topic as well.... I met a woman last year whom I think is a perfect candidate, but I'm not sure how to approach her or what to ask. Insight, anyone?
|
Well, the meeting went GREAT, and we majorly hit it off (not that I had any doubts about that...) I'm convinced that this lady would make an absolutely dynamic Alpha Phi.. I only hope that I can help make this dream come true for her.
As for what I asked: Why didn't you become a member in college? Why Alpha Phi? What special interests do you have? What can you offer to Alpha Phi? Are you available to volunteer? What are you looking for in a sorority? How does Alpha Phi fit into that vision? Aye Fee, I wish someone had just come right out and asked me if I wanted to be an alumnae initiate! Everything eventually worked out for the best, but a lot of women don't even know that it's available to them. Why not just ask the woman if she might be interested in becoming an Alpha Phi? |
What to say to a prospective alum...
Don't forget to always be yourself and just chat too...Because you are an extension of Alpha Phi, you want to get her involved, but you also want her to know that you are a person too! Find common interests or activities that you both enjoy outside of alum stuff...Act like you are making a friend and Alpha Phi is something special in addition to that friendship. Most importantly, be genuine and have fun.
I am glad everything went well. Good luck! |
Thanks for the tip, Maharet. I swear, you're such an awesome sister! This woman and I have so much in common, it's downright scary! I feel as if I've made a lifelong friend, and now I'm hoping to make that friend a sister!
Edited to add: She's a PNAM (potential new alumnae member) on Greekchat. I'm not going to blow her cover, but I just wanted to let y'all know she's out there! :) |
