How many of you have competed in a pageant?

Lately there have been a couple of pageant related threads and it got me wondering...How many of GCers have competed in a pageant? If you have, what pageants where they and how long have you been doing them? Where they southern pageants or more Miss America style pageants!

I competed in Miss America locals for two seasons. Due to scheduling conflicts and such, it only worked out to be three pageants total. I never won, but it was a lot of fun!

I did our local Junior Miss when I was in high school...does that count? I was a favorite among the coaches, but I didn't win jack squat. Why? Who knows. Everyone was surprised, but I thought I sucked anyway. :p Actually, I think it was because there's some kind of rule that says you have to compete in the pageant your home county holds, and I didn't--I competed in the next county because that's where I went to school. Oh, well...it was fun anyway! :)

I was crowned York County Dairy Princess 1998 in the Dairy Princess Pageant! I then went on to compete in the state pageant. Didn't win, but had fun!

I competed in the Miss Big Bear pageant when I was a senior in high school. I won Miss Congeniality :) . I did it so that I could get over my fear of speaking in front of people.....it worked!

My best friend's family hosts the Miss Cheerleading of America pageants all over the country. They're a "scholarship" program (I think) for, duh, high school cheerleaders.

I will admit here and now that I was first runner up in the 1984 Dorseyville Corn Carnival Princess pageant.

And now I will never mention it again! :)

When I was 15 months old, I was named Hawaii's Healthiest Baby 1980. Does that count?

I've been approached by friends and their pageant coaches to do the local MAO prelims, but I won't be caught dead in a bathing suit on stage. I refuse to wear a two piece anywhere but the beach. Aside from that, there's just too much money and time involved...and I don't think I could've done that. I'm too old to compete now anyway. Oh well.

I never realized how much time and effort go into the Miss America preliminary pageants until post college. I dated a girl as a Freshman (Alpha Gam) and her (biological and sorority) sister was Miss Southern Ohio at the time, but I barely knew her -- just that she was a bartender and served us liquor underage.

When I was a TV director in Columbus just after O.U. I hired a former Miss Ohio and First runner up Miss America to do some shows for me at the Ohio State Fair one year. She and her husband and Mrs. DeltAlum and I became friends socially for a while. She is the one who told me how much work and how many pageants you had to go through to make it to "the top." As an aside, she showed me a trophy she got when named Miss Ohio. She had it made into a lamp! It was great!

Finally, I knew Miss America (1971 I think), a Fuzzie from OU who later married (and divorced) one of the anchormen at the station I worked for. I gave her rides back to Athens from Columbus on Monday mornings sometimes when I was heading down to see the future Mrs. DeltAlum. Last I heard, she was a designer for pageant swimwear and a talent coach for pageant contestants.

By the way, Mrs. DeltAlum was Prom Queen in high school, nominated for Military Ball Queen in college -- and perhaps most prestegious of all -- Toledo Area Student Council Queen! How do you top that?

edit

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that our son won the Mr. (High school name) both Junior and Senior year. It was a fundraiser where they wore provided tuxedos (it was just before prom) and had a talent competition -- he's a singer. He didn't think it was a big deal, but I think he had fun anyway.

I also did my local Junior Miss pageant and my Miss _____ High School Pageant when I was a senior. Won talent and interview in Junior Miss and was 1st runner up overall in the HS one...lol. It was really fun though and if the opportunity ever presented itself to do that type of thing again I would do it in a heartbeat :)

I did pageants until I was 13... I won a few, placed in a bunch. It all started when I was 2 months old and won a beautiful baby contest.

Fav. pageant memory: Little Miss Southwest. I was 8 and I won, and the trophy was bigger than me.

I was in one pageant in high school when I was 16. I was a semi-finalist, but the title went to someone else. There was no bathing suit competition. I considered doing the local Junior Miss, but I didn't. I forget why. Maybe they had a bathing suit competition.

You guys should post your formalwear pics! I love looking at pageant dresses. One of my sisters wore hers to our formal this year and it was gorgeous!
