Funny Graffiti

Okay, I was driving down town last night on a backroad when I noticed some new spraypainted graffiti. See, here in this town (which is SUPER small, keep this in mind) we have a new "gang" (the "Blood Killa's) Basically it's a group of white trash who are pimping aorund in a Pinto who listens to really crappy rap.

Anyway, they spraypainted "FUCH U BUTMUCH" on the back of a trash bin. This goes very well with their "BK Bith", "Fuc U", and "Cripss 4 Life".

So, what kind of bad spelling examples has little groups imposed on your town?

They usually spell the F word correctly in NY. :)

In detroit there are graffiti turtles everywhere you look. It's not a gang but either one man or a small group of people doing it. The person leaves his signature as turtl. It's gotten so bad that there is a $5,000 reward for his arrest.

Omaha has a big art project called the J-Doe Project we've been doing for a couple years now - invite local artists to create 6ft tall fiberglass J-Doe statues and then put them all over town in all the public spots...dumb if you ask me, but it seems to be popular. Some of the J-Does are actually pretty creative.

To me, it's grafitti. To others, its art. Read about it or see most of the Does at www.jdoeproject.com

I always loved the high school students who were incapable of spelling "whore" correctly. It was the running joke of our AP English class!

any one remember the SNL where they had the grafitti in new york and they showed their steps to stop it. they would have police artists come in and after a place where a guys name was they would write sucks, so it would say "Deandre sucks" or whatever. that was a great day in SNL history

Sometimes he leaves it as Turdl. My best friend Gina wants to find the guy and marry him :p j/k! Anyways the thing that makes it so much more interesting, not the fact that it's ALL over Detroit (including expressway... how did he not get caught?) but some of the places it is.

We were walking to our car from Comerica Park and we saw it written HUGE on this one abandoned looking building... prolly about 8 or so stories high, maybe more. The turtles are kinda cute tho!

There's a railroad bridge not far from my house, and it's traditional that every year the high school senior class "decorates" it. Right now there's a place where it says: "Can of spray paint 5$ [sic]. Bucket of paint 20$ [sic]. Messing with you, priceless." :p

You know, I always knew I was a nerd because I would read the bathroom stalls and think "DAMN people, Learn to spell before putting something in public" Nevermind it was a bathroom and takes a really intelligent person to write

we had pigs in cinci. i think there's flower pots or something like that now but i haven't been downtown in quite a while

Down town Richmond has fish. On with the graffiti. I like it, when done well. I think its a type of art because it is one person trying to comunicate something with other people. Sometimes its just stupid though. FOr srping break we went to florida and there was Jewish Taging with Stars of David and stuff over the name. Then there was retaliation on same wall saying "f**k the Kites"
Now that's just plain stupid, not to mention bigoted and ignorant. Also, at school, everytime they paint this one bathroom stall, someone always writes the word satan. Nothing else, just satan. Whatever. At borders the slogans are philosophical. Can't think of any examples now though.

In Seattle, they do the pigs as well. It's kind of neat how it originated though. Down at the Pike Place Market there is a huge Bronze pig, which is actually a piggy bank for donations to the market. They took the pig idea, and ran it all over town, with the pigs all decorated diferently by an array of artists. They were displayed for a while all over the city, then auctioned off. All the proceeds went to the Market Foundation, which helps the low-income and homless people in the area, and general improvements and historic preservations to the Market.

You can see more about it here

It's funny - one of my best friends from home, his older brother and friends got really into graffiti when they were younger.

My friend's brother is a hell of a good artist though; a few businesses saw the graffiti (it wasn't tasteless at all), liked it, and hired him out to do spray paint art on their buildings. He realized he could make money on his talent, and is now teaching art and being commissioned to do similar pieces.

Funny how things work out.

In Norfolk, Va, we have Mermaids! Some of them are pretty neat...My personal favorite was the one dressed in Norfolk Admirals Hockey gear! I tried to post her picture in here, but I have been fighting with my computer all day..It is winning! Here is the link:

Her name was #346 - "The Norfolk Admiralette" She is found in the Archives. Some of those were auctioned off.

You can check out all of the Mermaid Parade. The Mermaids are "sponsored" by businesses. Some are neat, :D and some are just plain...."WEIRD!"
