LONDON (Reuters) - Move over Spider-Man -- mere mortals may soon be coming to a ceiling near you.

Researchers at the University of Manchester say they have cracked the secret of one of the reptile world's greatest climbers, the gecko, and produced a sticky tape that can mimic the lizard's gravity-defying abilities.

Soon, people could walk on walls like comic-book superhero Spider-Man, the university said.

"The new adhesive -- gecko tape -- contains billions of tiny plastic fibers which are similar to natural hairs covering the soles of geckos' feet," the University said in a statement.

"The research team believes it won't be long before Spider-Man gloves become a reality."

Bob Full, a biology professor at the University of California at Berkeley in the United States, who was also involved, said the technology could be used for handling computer chips and could have applications in medicine.

Plans are under way to produce larger pads and to improve the tape's durability, said the journal Nature Materials, which published the paper. It added that humans could hang from the ceiling by covering just one palm with the tape.

But Manchester University said cost was currently prohibitive.

"We have considered producing a large amount of gecko tape, sufficient amounts to enable a student to hang out of the window of a tall building," it said. "However it would cost too much money, and would not benefit us scientifically."

or better yet -- the power to fly like Superman... that way I wouldn't have to worry about rush hour traffic :D

i want to have xray vision;) but i only want it when i choose to have it. there are just somethings that i dont need to see.
i also want the power to disappear and the power to rewind time so i can start over and make things better

i would like to have the power to freeze time. does anyone remember the show "out of this world," or something like that, where the girl puts 2 fingers together to freeze time and claps to undo time?

for example, when i am taking a test for a hard ass class i would not be rushed AND i can break out the books and no one would know. NO STUDYING!!! i can also walk through my favorite restaurant and pick out food without paying. think of all the options i have. lol

I would love to have the ability to be invisible. The possibilities would be endless.

I wanted her powers too! Now I want Piper on Charmed power to freeze. Either that or the ability to orb or move stuff.


BTW Not many people remember Out of this World because it flopped being that it was a new gimmick NBC came up with by starting prime time thirty minutes earlier.

I loved Out of this World. Her name was Evie. She had other powers too, the ablilty to change thing into other things, and her dad talked to her throught the cube thingy. Ahe had a Uncle Beano and then the Mayor dude. OK I remember way to much about this show LOL

My superpower would be, without question, the ability to know the consequences of each choice whenever I have to make a decision. If I could just somehow see what would happen, it would be so much easier for me to make decisions--as it is, I hem and haw until I absolutely have to do something, then I get all flustered. My momma has always told me to just "make up your mind and live with your choice," but it would be so much better if I knew what it would be like!

The ability to become the only driver on the road
