Breaking news: explosion at Yale law school
I don't really know what's going on.. I'm hearing something on the news about an explosion at a law school. It is believed to be a bomb. I think it's located in New Haven?
I can't find online stories of it anywhere, but am hearing about it .. The explosion was in the mailroom. They haven't found any injuries or anything, which is good. |

Explosion Reported at Yale Law School
Associated Press Wednesday, May 21, 2003; 5:24 PM NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- An explosion was reported in a mail room at the Yale University law school, a city spokesman said. James Foye, a spokesman for Mayor John DeStefano, said he had no immediate information about any injuries. The FBI in New Haven said members of the agency's terrorism task force were sent to the scene. Smoke could be seen rising from downtown. The incident came as the nation was on elevated alert for possible terrorist attacks and several hours after President Bush -- a Yale alumnus -- visited the state to speak at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduation ceremony in New London. © 2003 The Associated Press |
I am watching the news right now. There is smoke billowing from the mail room. So far, there are no reports of any injuries. They are concerned about terrorism.

if it was indeed terrorism..... why the heck would you blow up a mail room at a law school?
I'm hoping that the law school is finished for the semester, I think most are.... and it's late enough in the day that there shouldn't be many people around. Yes Bush was in the state, but he wasn't even at Yale. Hmmm.... i'll be following this one. |
But he did graduate from Yale. Hmmmm....
|
He didn't even go to the law school.... he's got an MBA.
Pretty dumb terrorist- "take that President Bush, i'm going to blow up the mail room of the law school at the university you attended" Could also be a disgruntled law student....... |
We had several bomb scares and one device that was blown up in a contained explosion by the Bomb Squad when I was in law school. I think that law schools make easy targets b/c the professors are always on TV giving commentary.
CNN has an article here. CNN says it was in an empty classroom, not the mailroom, there were no injuries and that the building was empty at the time of the explosion. This will be interesting to watch. |
They interviewed a law student who was there when it happened. She said that she was hugging a friend good bye when they heard the explosion. She wasn't sure if it came from a classroom, but it was down the corridor from where she was standing. She saw smoke and an orange glow down the hall. They rushed out of the building with all of the people who heard and saw the explosion. The rest of the students were calmly ushered out of the building. That's all that I remember. I am not sure if classes are in session or if they are taking finals.

msnbc right now is reporting that currently there are no programs going on on campus now. all dorms empty. the building was being used in the am for exams and was open all day. the mayor said that the wall in between two classrooms collapsed, but that there is no structural damage and no windows blown out. the other thing that they said was that none of the terrorist threats for the east coast did not relate to yale.....so who knows. they are going to comb through the other buildings too.

Yale, Smale, who cares!
Now if they placed a bomb at the Home of the Gorillas,(PSU) I would really be pissed! These people are MORONS and very frightening Who knows what is in their minds:confused: |
Dang now there are bombs at schools, are we safe anywhere?
|
my guess(and while i'm not expert) someone probably sent whomever a mail bomb...and it blew up in the mail room accidentally...chances are, the intention was not to actually blow up the mail room(what would be the point?)
again..i'm no expert :) |
On NPR they said that President Bush's daughter Barbara goes there. I do hope it's not terrorism, and just an accident. That's the last thing we need, to feel unsafe at school.
