Brother Earp, thanks for your order of the Alumni Pyramids. This is the
first merchandise that has been designed for alumni almost exclusively
and aids our undergraduate seniors in their transition from
undergraduate to alumni status. According to John Benson, President of
Masters of Design, our fraternity jeweler, many organizations have
discussed doing something like this for their membership but we are the
first ones to follow through with plans.



In our effort to help raise $10,000 for the Educational Foundation this
year, we are asking all brothers if they would pass this information to
those on their email list as well as Lambda Chi Zeta's High Rho. Chad
Tino, our Director of Information Services in Indianapolis, has updated
our fraternity website to simplify the sharing of information. If you

There they can click on links for the Alumni Pyramid for descriptive
information, the introductory letter sent out by Tom Helmbock explaining
our fundraising campaign, and downloading of the order form.



By utilizing the internet and email, we hope to reach the largest number
of members in the shortest time at the least expense. This translates
into more profit for our Educational Foundation. By working our network
together, we'll not only reach our goal of 1000 pyramids sold in 2003,
but exceed it as well.



In the first week since the email went out, we shipped 29 pyramids and
to date have sold 163 to brothers at 73 different zeta since Jan. 15th.
As a purchaser, you will be kept up to date on the progress of our
project and we appreciate not only your commitment to Lambda Chi Alpha
but also your willingness to assist us in the success of our project.

I can vouch for the "coolness quotient" of the pyramid, since mine arrived last week. It rests right next to a photo I took of an Alumni Award the Northwestern chapter won last year in Denver.

This makes a really nice Father's Day/graduation present, also. In my instance, I get myself an LCA-related present every couple of years (last time I got a tie). This serves the purpose well.

First time I've seen the Graduation Ritual - it looks nice, but, what the h*ll is vicissitudes? Gotta love Ritual grammar - sure makes for some interesting words.

Hmm from what I can remember of English class.... Vicissitudes donates a change in life or developement, often resulting in the conditions being worse.

Tom's right. It is small, but still impressive. The picture doesn't really show the Cross and Crescent are actually embedded in the acrylic, not mounted on the surface, which is very cool.

I highly recommend this for your fellow brothers or selves!

LXA Pyramid
 

Brothers, wanted to give each of you an update on our Pyramid campaign. As of 5/31, we have shipped 186 Alumni Pyramids to brothers at 84 zetas. Keep in mind that our goal is 1000 Pyramids in 2003. When the Alumni Pyramid was introduced in Oct. of last year, we took orders of 68 at that time and presented the Educational Foundation a check for $500 on presale alone. We plan to write two checks this year to the Educational Foundation, one on 6/20 for this year's fiscal year and the second on Nov. 20th when we present our check to Chris Molloy at our Alumni Association fall meeting in Dallas. If any of you happen to be in Dallas at that time, please plan to join us as we will be doing an exemplification of our Ritual and the new Senior Ceremony.

In response to several comments, let me clarify the Pyramids. They were designed to have an understated elegance that would allow it to be displayed proudly on a mantle, desk, computer, trophy case, etc. It was created more along the lines of a paperweight rather than a trophy.

Also there has been questions about the color of the casing. Although the photo provided by Masters of Design, which is on the official website, looks to be purple, the actual casing is clear. The base is purple and the cross & crescent medallion which is suspended in the casing is bronzed. As it is a three sided prism, once the light reflects off the base, the purple color predominates and gives the pyramid a purple cast as you see in the picture.

Several of you have been instrumental in helping to spread the news of our fund raising project to many of your chapters, brothers and peers. I cannot thank you enough! There will be an article on the Senior Ritual presentation and the Alumni Pyramid as well as a half page ad on the marketing of the Pyramids in the upcoming issue of the Cross & Crescent scheduled to be mailed at the end of this month. As a result, we have another shipment of 500 Pyramids scheduled for early July delivery. As you can see, this is not a flash in the pan scheme but one where we feel we can involve more brothers in participating in a project that bebefits us all. I'll post monthly updates throughout the year.

I'm always open to suggestins and appreciate your participation. If you have not received your Pyramid as of yet, you have only to contact me. I'll look forward to corresponding with you as I have many others. And getting to know you brightens my appreciation of our brotherhood as have others that I have spoken with.

An Update From Brother John Peirce:

Brothers, as we end the first half of the year, I'd like to bring you up
to date on the Alumni Pyramid campaign to raise $10,000 for the
Educational Foundation. As of this date, we have shipped 193 Alumni
Pyramids to brothers at 87 different zetas.



The significance of this achievement is noteworthy. From the original
order for 68 Pyramids which was taken at the Oct. '02 meeting of the
Dallas Alumni Association, what was questioned by one brother as a scam
has contributed $1000 in the just ended fiscal year to our Educational
Foundation. And each of you played a part by your participation in
purchasing one or more Pyramids for yourselves as well as other
brothers. For this you have our deepest appreciation.



In the next two weeks, the next issue of the Cross & Crescent will be
delivered with the article of the Senior Ritual being conferred on our
first initiate, Tom Helmbock, at that same Oct. meeting along with a
feature on the Alumni Pyramid as well as a half page ad which is
endorsed and paid for by the fraternity. We expect many more like you to
take advantage of this opportunity to secure a piece of Lambda Chi
history as well as aid our scholastic efforts with the Educational
Foundation. Having served as a panelist for the last three years on the
Scholarship Committee, I can assure you that the caliber and
resourcefulness of our undergraduates will make you proud.



You will be receiving monthly updates on our progress as our next
shipment of 500 Pyramids is in transit as this is written. We have made
a step in the right direction and will need your further assistance if
we are to attain our goal

Re. Pryamid update!:




Brothers, as we enter the end of this calendar year, I'd like to bring
you up to date on what has been a rewarding experience for Lambda Chi.
In August of last year, the General Assembly approved an extension of
our treasured ritual named the Senior Ritual. As we have seen, change
can be good although sometimes deliberate rather than swift. Since this
was not a forced implementation, some chapters responded faster than
others. To date, versions of either the open or closed ceremony have
been supplied to 110 of our chapters.



All of you who are receiving this update have received one of the
Pyramids and I want to thank you personally for your participation.
Since the first of the year, we have sold 276 Alumni Pyramids to
brothers in 113 different zetas. With each Pyramid sold, all profits
from the proceeds goes to the Educational Foundation which benefits our
chapters in its sponsoring of seminars and leadership training for
undergraduates. To date we have donated $1000 to the Foundation and plan
to raise significantly more this year.



Pyramids have been purchased as wedding gifts, anniversary gifts,
Fathers Day gifts, and gifts for Little Brothers and graduating seniors
and now as Christmas gifts. We are now entering a season of giving and
we need your help in getting our message out to more brothers. For the
next 5 weeks, we can deliver Pyramids in time for Christmas and allow
alumni everywhere to experience the delight that we all have in our
ownership of something of intrinsic value as alumni in the brotherhood
of Lambda Chi Alpha. One of the last orders received was for 20 Pyramids
for the graduating seniors at Texas State who will be performing the
Senior Ritual on Dec. 2nd.



Please take the time to notify those brothers on your email list of not
only what the Pyramid has meant to you but also how they too can help
support our fraternity while receiving a piece of Lambda Chi history

On April 17th, you received information about the “Graduating Senior/Alumni Ritual Ceremony.” In developing the ceremony, an Alumni Pyramid was developed as a gift to graduating brothers who participate in the ceremony. The item is a pyramid-shaped Lucite figure, with a suspended Cross & Crescent, and the word “Alumnus” is etched into the base. The reason for this message is to clarify the price of the Pyramid. For chapters purchasing the Pyramid for brothers going through the ceremony, the price will only be $35. This is also the first that I heard that The Zetas can buy them for $35.00 for Graduating Brothers. What a great gift! One that will be cherished for the rest of thier lives.

For the Alums who do not have one, it is really unique, and $10.00 goes in your name to the Educational Foundation.

I look at mine daily as is on top of the PC screen and I pick it up and hold in awe that one of our Brothers came up with such a Fantastic idea for benefit not only each of us but the EDU FUND!
