intramurals

on yeah, ive noticed that not many TKE chapters are participating in sports, and to be blunt thats a bad thing. At our school we use sports and brhotherhood as our two biggest rush tools. We win every intramural sport at our school becasue we participate and actually care about winning. Just a word of advice to fellow fraters, if you want to stand out then be better than the other fraternities in sports, and trust me they hate when you can brag about how bad you beat them in softball, or volleyball, or football. Get my drift.

Where do u see where not many TKE are active in intermurals? When I was an undergrad at Valdosta we always particpated in most events.

You have a point, intermural is a way to rush guys.. but what kind of guys??

Your going to be attracting the sports guys, but you want all kinds of different personalities, and talents.. so you gotta think that one through..

i have searched many intramural websites at schools nad seen nothing about TKE. I understand your thought about participating in intramurals, but you have to win them also. I know they say intramurals is all about fun but it is also a good way to beat other fraternities and raise the morale of the chapter.

my school has won the championships for the last 3 years but when all you do is play other greeks you cant really use it as a rush tool

what kind of guys??? the kind of guys that are used to being part of a team, future leaders in your chapter, guys that take responsibility very seriously, men that are used to receiving orders and completing the tasks at hand.

athletes are leaders and hard workers....the kind of guys we need in TKE

Beta-Beta is always involved in intramurals. There isn't a single event that we don't participate in. We always try to bring our rushees out to the events. If they see us win, they see how humble we are in victory and if for some reason we lose they see us cool-headed in defeat. Yes, intramurals are great rush tools.

actually when you beat other greeks its a great rush tool. Think about it your beating other greeks, and that gives off the image that you are better than them. Anyone who thinks that intramurals arent a great rush tool need to have their head examined, and obvioulsy havent been in the fraternity for a long time.

I would rather meet guys in classes that are very smart then to meet a jock out on a field playing some sport I would much rather have the highest GPA then the winning of the intramural championship even though my chapter does both....

maybe that is how your chapter is ran, but being a tke i would think that you would understand that each chapter is different, and being a jock is not a bad thing, but on a serious note, most jocks have good grades. Think about it before you go off running your mouth about something. And by the way every individual in the chapter is different. We have some that are brilliant with a computer, we have some that are god like with an instrument, and then we have some who can go out on the field and beat the shit out of everyone else in soccer. We are an athleitc fraternity and that is something you need to face.

Part of being an Apollo man is being well rounded. Scholarship is very important, since that SHOULD be why we go to college in the first place, but it is good to have a well-rounded chapter.

This does not mean our grades kick ass, but we have no social life, it also doesn't mean we have a great social program but our grades are low.

it's a hard balance to get, it's different for everyone, and the balance in the same chapter may change drastically every few years depending on who is leading your chapter, but it's probably the most important balance you'll get in your life.

if you work till you drop, you probably aren't going to be as happy unless you love to work and find balance for yourself in work.

it’s something that takes some time to find, your not going to find it right away, and it'll take a while. As Jimmy Buffet once sang, "We're fast enough to get there, but slow enough to see, Moderation seems to be the key."

Take your time, find your balance (or your chapter's), and have fun while doing it. you'll turn out alot happier.

tke268 05-21-2003 04:35 AM

huh?

FIRST, THANKS FOR THE SPILL ABOUT GETTING A WELL ROUNDED CHAPTER, BUT WE ALREADY HAVE ONE. MY POINT IS THAT SPORTS PLAY A HUGE ROLE IN "MOST" MENS LIVE'S, AND TO HAVE A CHAPTER SUCCEED IN GREEK LIFE THEY MUST BE GOOD AT SPORTS. ITS A FACT THAT I WILL NOT ARGUE WITH. YES YOU SAY THAT GRADES ARE IMPORTANT AND I AGREE WITH YOU, BUT MOST PEOPLE IN MY CHAPTER DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GRADES, SO THE NEXT CONCERT IS INTRAMURALS.
WE WERE VOTED BEST ORGANIZATION ON CAMPUS NOT BECAUSE WE HAD THE BEST G.P.A. OR THE BEST BROTHERHOOD. IT WAS BECASUE WE PARTICIPATED IN EVERYTHING, AND FORTUNATLY SPORTS ARE LOOKED AT MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. FACE IT.

Wes_517 05-21-2003 02:02 PM

Frater, there is no need for the capslock. I'm glad to hear you have a well rounded chapter.

Fact is there are alot of chapters out there that don't, and have no idea either what their suppose to be doing, or better ways of doing what they are.

There's chapters out there that are flat out oblivious to things that i've always thought were givens in TKE. Things like every Conclave, every chapter has already paid for 1 member to go in their dues. Some chapters don't know that, and they continue to not know unless someone mentions it to them.

So don't head for the Capslock right away when something is said and doesn't apply directly to you, there's a good chance it either applies to someone else reading the board now, or will in the future.

ncstatetke 05-21-2003 03:33 PM

whoa there 268!

remember that this is supposed to be civilized conversation amongst brothers. nobody was personally attacking you or your chapter. your last two posts have been out of line.

The1calledTKE 05-21-2003 04:48 PM

I agree with ncstatetke. Anymore attacks either way I will lock the thread.
