question
hello to the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated:
I have been interested in your organization for some time now and would like to know what I can do (besides making good grades, community service, and attending all of the sororities functions) in order to make myself stand out as a prospective member. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you very much and God bless. |
My advice is that you get involved in campus activities. Are you a member of any organizations or clubs? I was a journalism major and my freshman year I began writing for the African-American newspaper on my campus. Eventually, I became the activities editor. My name was literally out there! My very first story was an article on Greek Week from the BGLO perspective. I had to go out and introduce myself to greeks I didn't know to get quotes and information.
I like to see potential candidates who have strong leadership abilities. I wanted to know that after I graduated college, my undergrad chapter would be in excellent hands. Take on a leadership role. I remember one potential candidate began her own toy drive for underprivliged children. She got permission to put a big box in the student center and people donated toys. She was very successful. We were very impressed with her. I wish you much luck in your AKA journey. |
