Prank Calling

Errr... so pissed.

I first received a phone call about a month ago in the morning from a girl who asked if Jennifer L [last name] lived there. I said no, just Jennifer M. She is all, oh sorry, I must have the wrong number.

Two days later I get a call on my cell phone from a private number around the same time the last person called. The girl on the other line blatenly told me she needed to talk about my ovaries. Now at 8:30 in the morning, I ain't very quick... but this was just weird. She told me that I had had my tubes tied last month and that there was a mistake. There wasn't a Dr. referenced and obviously I hadn't had my tubes tied so I hung up.

I haven't gotten a call in a while but tonight, I swear the same girls called again, this time on my land line. I heard, Hi Jennifer how are you? (First of all no one calls me Jennifer and expects me to remember them unless they are the Dr or something. I am Jen to everyone else.) I asked who is this? I swear another girl came on and said Hi Jenny how are you? I asked who it was and she said I can't believe you don't remember me. I asked again who it was. She said, well you are in my phone book, I can't believe you don't know me. See I had this affair with your boyfriend... (That's funny cuz I don't have one...)
I said, you know... I grew out of prank calling in 7th grade and I hung up.

Where are these people getting my number? Especially my cell. My cell isn't listed in the phone book. My land line maybe, but it's just really weird. And why keep calling the same number back? Are people THAT bored????

Ahhh, sorry. :( A friend of mine was receiving calls like this, only the prank caller was telling my friend that her husband was cheating on her with the caller. Don't you know sugar and gas tank came to mind. lol

We keep getting prank mail - and we're pretty sure its our obnoxious neighbor kids, because its the kind of stuff that you get in high school - Vector Marketing, the Air Force, etc.

It's all addressed to Whoa Booty.

We went to B&N and got an assload of magazine subscription cards - the ones that say "bill me later".

*evil grin*

I haven't really had any experiences with prank callers, but the other day someone called for my bf's brother and I answered the phone. When I informed her that he wasn't there, she was like, are you sure he's not there...I hung up the phone on her. Then she called right back and was like, I have some stuff of his fathers here in my office and he needs to come and pick it up. Now at this point I was pissed that she would lie like that because his father died in Vietnam.

valkyrie 05-19-2003 11:28 AM

I'd try *69ing anybody who pranked me.

I don't really get pranks any more, but I'd appreciate a good one. I used to be a professional prank caller/pizza orderer. LOL.

Juniorgrrl, that magazine subscription thing cracks me up to no end! It reminds me of when I was in college and my friend and I used to mail random stuff to this guy she was dating. We sent him free ugly ass polyester pants in the mail (order now, pay later) in like size 900 and he showed up at her place one night wearing them!!!

LOL.

I used to love prank calling. It's harder now since people have caller ID and whatnot.

My faves:

We would call Red Lobster and ask if they had lobster tails. They would say yes, and we would say "it must be hard to sit down!"

3 or 4 of us would get together and call a random number. the first three would call maybe 15-20 minutes apart and ask for some made-up person (i.e. hi, can I speak to Bill?). Of course they would be like "you have the wrong number" each time. Well the fourth person calls a little later and says "what's up man, this is Bill, do I have any messages?"

Um yeah, lol. This was like in middle school so we were a tad immature but at the time those seemed like the greatest things ever.

Libra, you're cracking me up because I did the same thing!

One of my favorite pranks was calling someone up at random and saying, "This is <insert name here> from the phone company. We are going to be working on your lines for the next half hour, and it is VERY IMPORTANT that you don't answer your phone during that time."

Then we'd call back 10 minutes later, and when the person answered the phone, we'd just scream -- WHY DID YOU ANSWER THE PHONE?!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Yeah, that's so stupid on so many levels, but I thought it was hilarious.

I had similar things happening to me. It hasn't happened in a while but I was recieving harassing IMs, text messages and cell phone calls. It's really pathetic that at this age level people feel like this is still acceptable. I don't mean to sound b*tchy but after a point it's not funny...it's just annoying.

Somebody stole my oldest high school daughter's cell phone. For reasons I forget now, she's pretty sure it was the Guatemalan kid whose locker is below hers.

The thief couldn't dial out on her phone because she had a code and the phone was abandoned and found at the school several days later. However, my daughter is STILL getting phone calls from someone with a Hispanic accent asking for Pamela. (There are no Pamelas in the school.)

If a person isn't on my phone list for my cell phone then I don't know who they are usually so I call the number back. Well every few weeks I get a call and I call the number back and say," Yeah someone called me." Then they say they must have had the worng number. THEY give me attitude:rolleyes: I'm like excuse me you called me 1st.
On another note people often get my phone number confused with the rec center so I play around with them.
One guy wanted to set up a time to use the raquetball court. SO I set up a time, but I knew the rec center was closed then. If they call again I have some more fun ways to mess with them.

I didn't get a prank call but my cell phone rang one morning very early (like 7 am). I was too tired to answer it so I let my voice mail pick it up. Then I got ready for work and forgot all about the call.

So I arrive at work and go out for a smoke break with my coworker and I saw the number of the missed 7 am phone call. I called it back and it was this nursing home. I thought about my grandma who'd been recently admitted to one but released (it was temporary for her illness). I was all freaked out cuz my number isn't listed. I asked the secretary if someone by my grandmother's name lived there and she said no. I explained that someone from that number had tried calling me at 7 am and she appologized and said it must have been a wrong number.

That still freaked me out.

Grrr...

A couple of weeks ago, I got a call asking if this was the Smith residence (the name has been changed to protect the innocent :) but it was a fairly common last name.) I said no, you have the wrong number. Instead of apologizing and hanging up, the guy then said "Well, whose residence have I reached?" Me: "I don't give out personal information over the phone." (Meaning, unless I place the call or know the caller.) Him: "Well, what number have I reached?" Me: "What number did you dial?" He reads my phone number back to me digit for digit. So I said, "That is the right number, but there's no one here by that name. Please don't call here again" and hung up. (Rude? Maybe, but I was in the middle of dinner.)

As always, I came up with the perfect retort after I hung up: "Listen, I'm sorry if the chick you picked up at the bar last night didn't want to give you her real number, but THIS ISN'T IT!" :p

That's great fun. My friend's number was one digit off from the movie theater in downtown Boston. Peopel would ask for movie schedules and he started making them up. lol.

Oh no!! You all are awful... hehhehe :)

Of course, my silly friends and I indulged in the occassional prank phone call when we were in junior high school. One of my favorites was this one:

"Hello?"

"Yeah, hi, may I speak to Robyn Wall please?"

"I'm sorry, but there is no one here by that name"

"Oh. Is there a Stephen Wall there?"

"Sorry, nope"

"Amanda Wall?"

"No."

"Greg Wall."

"No."

"There are no walls at your house?"

"Noooo....."

"Then what's holding up the roof?!!"

hehehehe...we were stupid. :)

I also had a friend who did the most HEINOUS prank calls. He would call random numbers on the telephone and, if it was a male, would ask for a person with a common name like Michael. Without fail, he would get someone there with that name. Depending on how old the person sounded, he would start making up stuff as if he knew them. He would say that his name was John (who doesn't know someone named "John"?) and act like he went to high school with the "victim".

I remember one day he put it on speaker phone and a bunch of us listened in while he did this. The victim usually wants to be polite and tries to pretend that they know who it is. You can tell that they're really racking their brains to figure out who their "old high school buddy" is. Eventually the victim would start fishing around for things like "So...uhm...John, we had a great time in class together." And my friend would respond "Yeah, Coach was tough!" and the poor victim would think "Ohhh..we must have had PE together!"

This once instance I remember, the victim started filling him in on how his life went after high school, his wife, kids etc.... The victim then asked my friend about his kids and my friend started to flounder because he wasn't sure how old he was supposed to be. The man on the line got confused and then got suspicious. He finally got mad and my friend had to hang up.

I had no idea my friend did prank calls like this! I was so shocked that someone could carry on a conversation like that for so long! That's so awful! Funny....but awful! :)

.....Kelly :)
