Sorority Porn

So my friend has Kazaa and he is able to make cd's for me. Well besides songs he also gets porn. Well I was looking down the list and there are some porns and they use real sororities. So I checked one out and well the sororities do some nasty things. Anyway should I report this to the Nationals of the houses? I'm certain that a lot of this is made up and not real sorority initiations. But shouldn't Nationals be informed that their name's integrity is at stake?
Also how would I notify them I don't want them to think I'm so pervert who watches porn on the computer!

sadeyes, I do not hink it is your place to report this to a National. Period.!

I am sure there are many out there who would with glee, but be bigger than that!:)

AlphaXi4983 05-13-2003 11:43 PM

i think you should report it to nationals, becuase if these are recognzed national sororities, their names are copyrighted and (technically) cannot be used without permission from the copyright holder (i.e. headquarters). also, it portrays the sorority and its sisters in a light in sure is very contradictory to their constitution or by-laws.

Are you sure they are true "sorority girls" though? I mean did you see national greek letters, crests, other things? Hell, Kazaa is jacked and people have a super tendancy to mislabel thiings. Go to download an OLP song and you get some country stuff. Or better yet, you go to download a song and it's someone singing their own song or doing karaoke.

DeltaBetaBaby 05-13-2003 11:56 PM

Tom,
I don't think that she means tattling on members of the sorority, I think she means calling out people who have nothing to do with the sorority, but are using letters without permission.

Yes, yes yes, you should blow the whistle on them....

From DG's National Website:

"Did you know our name, DELTA GAMMA, is a registered trademark?
The majority of Greek organizations, including Delta Gamma, have taken steps to register their respective insignia as official trademarks. In short, a trademark is a word, phrase, symbol or design that identifies goods or services and distinguishes them from others. In order to protect our symbols, Delta Gamma has taken the necessary steps to register our trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Therefore, the symbols of our sorority are the exclusive property of Delta Gamma.

The following are Delta Gamma's registered trademarks:
1) the name "Delta Gamma"
2) the Greek letters DG
3) the Delta Gamma crest
4) the Delta Gamma badge
5) the title "Anchor Splash"
6) the title "Most Beautiful Eyes"
7) the title "ANCHORA of Delta Gamma"

Question--in the sorority porn footage...are the letters in it? Or is the GLO name just mentioned in the title?

I remember doing a search on "sorority" on Kazaa and I came up with a bunch of stuff. There was a GLO mentioned in a lot of them, so out of curiosity, I dl-ed them. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING affiliated with that GLO in the clip...it was just a bunch of girls getting off.

I know that names are copyrighted and it's a big deal, but I don't think it's worth it to make a big deal over mis-labeling.

AZpinkkittie 05-14-2003 09:48 AM

I think you should definitely report it if the letters or indentifiable marks or symbols are IN the actual footage, other wise I'd leave it alone. As Hootie said, the Nationals might already know about itand that's why it's still up there. They could just be using the name to attract viewers, and since the sorority is not actually being used, it might not be considered such a problem. Trademarks can be used in satires, and if it's just in the title, it might be considered as use along those lines (let me be clear, I am NOT calling porn satire).

And if it is true that the real houses are in the video, report their asses!! Don't let what their HQ might think influence you. I'm sure you can explain that you were doing a search and that title popped up, & you were shocked and curious as to it's authenticity, so you checked it out. I'm sure they would appreciate you bringing it to their attention a lot more than they would care about how you found about it.

33girl 05-14-2003 09:58 AM

OK, you have to explain this to the person who still makes cassette mix tapes. :p How is Kazaa set up? Does it have a list of things to pick from, you click on it and then it plays?

If it has things like "Beatles Hey Jude" and then you open and it's some karaoke of a guy singing Hey Jude, I doubt if you can do anything if all they say is "XYZ horny sisters" and the horny sisters aren't actually wearing letters. I mean, Paul McCartney has more $$ than all our sororities put together, if he hasn't fought it successfully how could we?

AZpinkkittie 05-14-2003 10:04 AM

kazaa

You can search titles a few ways. You can search for only a certain media, or you can search for all media (music, video, etc) and you can do it by title or artist. Thing is, it's like google. You can get some wierd stuff just because your search and the title share a word. If you put "sorority" in yorur search to look for, say, chapters singing the GLO's songs, you could come up with video with titles like "Sorority Girls Go Wild" (this is just an example, I've never seen this title actually used). After you found what you want, you select it, and it goes into a different page (cue) and begins downloading. Then you can play it.

Many of the more notorious files on Kazaa are copied, renamed, re-labeled, etc. and they are being distributed free of charge. Generally you only get results if you can hit somebody in the pocketbook. Unless its an actual business venture that you can sue, you're probably not going to get results. You'll only bring attention to what you want to avoid.

I'd blow it off, unless you've got some specific information about the identify of the people producing the porn and that the sorority letters or name are actually used in the film.

What!!!!!!!!! I thought porn is the gospel of love!

Sadeyes21 05-14-2003 12:42 PM

I wouldn't tell Nationals out of glee Tom! I noticed that mostly the sorority name was in the title, but some had paddle. I highly doubt any sorority would really allow themselves to have their house in a porn. Anyway I just figured many other houses may have their name used in ways they shouldn't be. The titles i saw were Chi Omega initiation etc. I wasn't trying to start something.
I know how serious it is when someone deativates and has their letters so I figured someone using a real Sorority name is violating a group's integrity.
