Chapter Mascot
I was just wondering if alot of chapters have mascots? i know that Alpha Alpha does not but if you have one, what is it and what is it's meaning?
:) i know that Alpha Lambda's (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is the Tomato but i don't know the meaning behind it. |
We use the Gammie Bug very rarely...other than that we have nothing!
|
Not sure if it is an actual mascot but, we use a goat.

A couple years ago, the Epsilon Iota chapter adopted a local mascot and local colors...and here is the little explanation as to why...
"Symbolism is ever-present throughout life, and sorority is no exception. Following in the footsteps of other chapters, Epsilon Iota adopted a mascot. Luna is our symbol of what we have achieved at Christopher Newport University. Unicorns are mystical creatures. They are majestic and they are a symbol of royalty. Our unicorn, Luna, symbolizes much more. She has four feet that set her foundation on the ground, much like the founders of Gamma Phi Beta, Helen M. Dodge, Francis E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, and Mary A. Bingham; who set our foundation in 1874. Moving up, she has four legs which support the weight of her body. In Gamma Phi Beta, we support ourselves, and each other, with dedication to our creed: love, labor, learning, and loyalty. Her large body symbolizes the size of the sorority. Gamma Phi Beta reaches far beyond the Epsilon Iota chapter. Internationally, there are over 70,000 members. She has a long neck, one that denotes the length of time one is a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Sisterhood surpasses college, it is a lifetime commitment. On her neck, she wears a bandanna showing the local colors of Epsilon Iota. The horn on top of her head is symbolic of unity. She has one horn, we are one sisterhood. Together, you have Luna, Spanish for "moon," which is our international symbol. Luna is a majestic animal marked for excellence in all she does. She emulates the ideal Gamma Phi...striving for the highest type of womanhood and representing the sorority in her every action." |
Nyrdrms, that's really awesome that your chapter has "analyzed" your mascot.
Delta Lambda has a mascot, but not much meaning behind it. We use the lamb, and it's cute, but so cheesy (chosen when we were founded because we're the Delta LAMBda chapter...harhar). We use a lot of pink for our colors as well, mainly bc. it's used in so much G Phi B memoribilia. |

Our colligiate colors are red and blue, and our mascots are the tomato and the ladybug. Ladybugs being more popular

hey s_leigh20-
the Alpha Lambda chapter, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has the tomato as their mascot too. they're known as the "RED HOT TOMATOES" they have a really cool website- you should check it out: www.akicreative.com/gammaphibeta :D |
Hey Canadian Gamma Phi Betas,
I saw a hollowed out crescent moon necklace at Le Chateau the other day...just thought I'd mention it! Quote:
"Grunt! We're Gamma Phi Beeeeeeeeta! Grunt! We're red hot tomatoes! We get all the boys and we treat 'em like toys, We're Gamma Phi Beeeeeeeeta! Grunt!" That's probably where the whole red hot tomatoes idea came from. |

I love checking out websites too..... I know the UGA and FSU chapters both use the seal as their local mascot and the UGA chapter has "seal sis' " I went to USC (Beta Alpha chapter) -- cannot recall any local mascot at all... |
