NEED ADVICE!!! Financial Sales Job

I received a phone call regarding an oppurtunity in Financial Sales for Wachovia Bank. I'm not sure that I should go for it. The training begins on June 2. I'm going out of town next week and I didn't expect to be back until the middle of June, but I might be able to get back earlier...if it's worth it.

Can anyone give me any insight about this type of career?
Have you done anything like this? Know anyone who has?
What is the salary like? What kind of person does it take?
Etc...

Perhaps I will call them to learn more.
I'll keep you posted.

O.K.

I called the lady back. The position would be
selling all of the banks' products such as loans
and investments.

What type of sales? In house, in home, telemarketing...??? How do you find prospects? How would you be paid?

If I had to generate my own prospects, sell in their home and be paid by commission, I would not take the position. Maybe I'm too picky.

Since I'm leaving for Arizona next week, it's just not going to work out. Even if I could get back by the 2nd of June, I still need to go through the interview process. I was going to cut my trip short but I'm not cancelling my trip all together for a sales job. This trip is too important on so many levels. Of course, if this was going to be some great oppurtunity that shouldn't be passed up, then yeah, I would change my plans, and that is why I posted about it here...to gain a little insight.

Truthfully, I don't want to be in sales. Retail was enough for me.
The funny thing is, I think I am a good sales person, in that I don't lie
or bs people. But can you really be an honest, caring person when you
are in sales...and be successful?

It all depends on how you feel about "selling" - it has many interpretations.

Is this in-store sales, or are you expected to telemarket or door-to-door? What are the quotas, BY PRODUCT? What commissions/base salary are offered, and benefits?

Working for a bank is nice with the extra holidays, but it can also be stifling, speaking from experience.

If you really want to "sell" loans, such as mortgages, home equity loans, etc....your best bet for high income, and, if you don't mind a little risk, is to do what I do - be a mortgage broker. There may be licensing requirements for your state however, so do your homework.

Finally....any other "sure" offers coming in? If not, take it - income is income in today's economy - things are starting to change for the better, very, very slowly, so this might be a good foot-in-the-door type opportunity.

Best of luck!

Sorry to post again so soon, but....the answer is YES.

I won't sell anyone a loan without ensuring it is the best deal for them. As a broker, I can choose many banks' products, that make the best sense for the customer. I'll point out which ones make the best sense for their situation, but, the one factor I never consider is "which loan will pay me more?" I make enough on any loan regardless of circumstance to be my driving factor.

However, there are sharks out there, and I've seen many iffy deals because of "I'll get an extra .25% on this banks product" mentality.

I can honestly say, and I sincerely hope I'm not in the minority in the mortgage broker field, that I've never done a loan that in the end did NOT help my customers. I won't do it any other way for I want a good reputation in the community.
