mtvICON: MetallicA

Anybody else watching this right now on MTV?

Freakin aMAZing! 'tallica's always been my favorite band anyway, and I used to think I knew all the random trivia about them, but I've already learned quite a bit more, especially about Jason Newsted leaving the band in Jan 2001 (more about his motives anyway) and the surrounding drama. Wow.

You gottsta check this out!

...everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I've been a fan ever since jr. high or so (around 10-15 years) and have supported them consistently through changes in band membership, standing up for their rights as professional musicians to be compensated for their work (for which they have to pay to record and produce), explorations of self-expression (ahem, Load and Reload, S&M, etc.), and every other thing they've done. I've also seen them in concert at Lollapalooza '96 (also one of the last performances of both the Ramones and Soundgarden), December '96 with Korn, and Summer Sanitarium 2000 with Kid Rock and others, in addition to being a member of their fan club for a while (hey, college is a lot more expensive than high school, give me a break). I can't wait to see them in concert again and I'll be waiting for the stores to open on June 10th to buy a copy of their newest album. As far as I'm concerned, Metallica are the gods of all metal and rock and roll!

Some former fans may think they've sold out, some current fans question the conviction of former fans. But you know what? If you don't like them, then don't listen to them. It's that simple. There's no need to spread hate about something or someone you don't like or agree with. As for me... I'm proud to have been a loyal fan of Metallica for the last almost 15 years and quite frankly don't give a damn if anyone else agrees with me. Interesting how Metallica themselves have the same attitude. That's probably one of the reasons I can't get enough!

...oh, and if anyone considering posting a reply is more in agreement with Betarulz!, kindly refrain from starting a flame war about what you do or don't like about Metallica (esp. their civil actions against certain companies, etc.). The purpose of my thread is to show my gratitude for (in my personal opinion) the greatest band of all time. Your opinion may differ; that's ok. Just don't feel compelled to spread hate to get your point across - Greeks should be above that, ya know?

Peace brother. :D

I have been a fan of Metallica for years. I remember when One first premiered on the Headbanger's Ball ( The real long version). It was the talk at school the following week. I didn't like Avril's version of Fuel, but then I don't like her, but WTF did Snoop do to Sad but True? He forgot the damn words! I'm glad they cut it off. I was totally loving Korn's version of One, but Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit was okay. Jim Breuer did have a point when he said all James has to do is say "Yeah!" It was good to hear Jason say he was ready to see Metallica perform because from articles I have read recently he seemed still a bit mad about his departure. Now I'm psyched for the return of Headbanger's Ball on Saturday. MTV must have read my earlier posts :D

First time I saw them was when they open for Ozzy. Last time I saw them was when they co-headline with Guns n Roses.

I watched the show last night, and although I've never been a huge fan, I don't own any albums, I do like what I've heard and I thought seeing the whole timeline thing and watching some of the performances, including Korn's, Limp Bizkit's, and of course, Metallica's was really cool.

The show last night was incredible! Did anyone notice that they started playing a song from their new yet-to-be-released album right at the end? Too bad mtv cut out during the song to go to their next show.

I almost never watch MTV, but I made sure to tune in for the ICON special with Metallica. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I was a pretty big Metallica fan in my college days (early-to-mid-90's) but kind of dropped off after that. But I'm definitely going to buy their next album (St. Anger) when it comes out this summer.

I liked the format of the show, mixing old footage of the band with interviews and live performances. The boys looked like they got a kick out of seeing these young artists perform their songs, and there was a great deal of mutual respect. I couldn't believe Snizzoop was covering Sizzad but Trizzue, but it was pretty cool that he was there. And even Sean Penn was there too!

Looks like the band is doing well. Rob Trujillo, the new bass player, seems to be fitting in quite nicely. I also thought it was cool that they had interviews with Jason and how he said he's still a huge fan of the band.

I have been a Metallica fan since 1988 when they release the single "ONE". I have enjoyed listening to the group. I have all of their albums from" Kill Them All" to "S & M". I manage to catch the tail end of MTV's Icon. The Boyz played a cool medley as well as playing a song from "St. Anger". I'm definately waiting with great anticipation for their New Album to come out on June 10th.:D METALLICA RULES!!!!!!!!!
