underground?

I was reading some Delta posts, and they mentioned something about pre-pledging. I wanted to know exactly what pre-pledging or pledging "underground" was. They did say it was illegal also, is it?

Pre-pledging and pledging "underground" are illegal activities. Pre-pledging is when you engage in activities before initiation. An "underground" line is either not recognized by the corporate headquarters or it is a line that has completed initiation but continues to be "pledged" by going "underground". These events could be considered as hazing and may lead to disciplinary actions against the individuals involved and/or the chapter. This is how we used those terms on my campus so I hope I explained it accurately across the board.

Soror AKAtude, you answered ssh1980's question "skee-nominally". To answer Ms. Almond Creme, when you are "online" it should be sanctioned by the corporate office, the regional director, and university personnel (if you are an undergraduate). You are initiated at the end of the process after you have learned about the history, structure, and makeup of the sorority. Any activities that have not been sanctioned by the proper authorities are deemed illegal and could result in drastic steps if they are found to be in existence.
