Maria! Don't scare me like that!

KillarneyRose 05-06-2003 09:53 PM

Did you have a bad day? :(

Just remember though, in school YOU pay THEM for all the crap you go through whereas in the real world, at least THEY pay YOU for all the crap you go through!

Hope this helps, at least a little!

That's if you find a job. :(

Stay stay stay!!! Go back!!!

If you are really clever you'll find a way to stay in school and have them pay for it. . thats what most grad students are, people avoiding the real world . .. bless their little hearts.

pinkyphimu 05-06-2003 11:36 PM

or unless you find out that you will 99.9% lose the job that you absolutely love....as is my case today.

I'm sorry to hear that Pinky...you know what they say, when one door closes, another door opens. Of course, when they say that you want to kick their arse.

I will graduate from law school in less than 2 weeks, and I don't want to. Thinking of throwing one of my finals just so I can stay a little while longer, but then theres the almighty GPA thing... I graduated from undergrad over 10 years ago...didn't want to leave then, don't want to leave now. I should be a prof.

Wow...I can't imagine not wanting to leave law school.

I can't wait to get out of mine...even if I have to help the place along with some strategically placed kerosene hehe....

chideltjen 05-07-2003 02:43 AM

i pulled a rarity. i am graduating in 16 days and it only took me four years. the design market sucks right now so i am reverting back to jr college... something i never did. i am gonna take some remedial design program classes that i should have taken before entering the program BUT i also wanna take fun classes. stuff i didn't do cuz i was so focused on graduating in four years. maybe take up theater. :D and at $25 a unit as apposed to $1000 for 6, i am all over it.

screw the real world. i am not leaving school!

James 05-07-2003 03:38 AM

This would be the perfect time to pull a masters in public policy or international relations . . I bet your school has one of those one year programs for you LAw School types. . .

There is always PhD, a career staying in school. Plus, a very good job security if you get tenure (though getting tenure is harder then you think).

pinkyphimu, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your job. :(

Yep... the real world does pretty much suck right now. Those ads for summer classes at Westconn are starting to sound pretty good

lionlove 05-07-2003 10:25 AM

Already thought of that, but the old ball 'n chain is opposed to anymore schooling on my part.... He wants a life or something. Yep, the only way to swing more school is for me to flunk something I'm taking right now...and if I keep messing around on GC today, that Discrimination in Employment final tomorrow may just be the ticket....

LXAAlum 05-07-2003 12:33 PM

My secret so far to being successfully employed during weird economic times (thankfully, the tide IS turning, albeit very slowly)...

I've always switched career fields when laid off - that way, over the years (4 layoffs in 8 years) - I have a wide variety of backgrounds to fall back on should I need to.

Of course, the best way to avoid layoffs is to go into business for yourself (as I did finally last year after the last layoff - mortgage broker now)....

Keep options open, educate yourself (either by going back to school or switch career fields), and always keep your network in touch - that is where ALL of my jobs have come from.

Best of luck, keep your head up, things will turn.
