bathroom question for the girls....lol
no not that kind of question, dont be gross:p
this is sort of a continuation of my interior decorating question... i am going to have my own bathroom for the first time in my life. i have always fantasized about my dream bathroom and how it would become a sanctuary. have you girls decorated your bathroom in a special way? i want my bathroom to have candles, colors, aromatherapy, music, and scents everywhere....in other words: very girly. post your bathroom decor here:) |
I just redecorated our bathroom a couple of months ago. It has ceramic tile flooring, and the shower and the bottom 1/2 of the walls are covered in this tile (which, by the way, is brownish...) I had to remove icky metallic wallpaper (brown, orange, and gold, looked like soap labels). My favorite was that there was glitter added to the paint on the ceiling. Hubby isn't much of a decorator, and the woman he bought the house from had all kinds of fun with the glitter. He's lived here for about 8 years and never once thought about changing it. In other words, it was time. lol
Anyway, I stripped the wallpaper and got this almond paste paint. The ceiling is white, walls are done in the almond paste. Then, I got ambitious and used a stencil to paint ivy leaves around the top of the wall. I already had burgundy and hunter towels, so I got a hunter bath mat to replace the orange one. My sisters told me I need to go get some rose towels so my bathroom isn't all about Alpha Phi. I didn't think hubby would go for that, but we had to put new carpet in my son's room a few weeks ago, and he found this tile with roses etched in that he said would go nicely with the new bathroom. I still need to go get a shelving unit to go in there, and I plan to add my candles to that. |
I'm currently re-doing my bathroom as well.
It's all pink and it's from the 70s...I'm having it done in creamy tones and I'm pushing for a steam shower and a whirlpool jet tub. :) |
I would looooove to have heated tile floors in my dream bathroom!!!!
|
I'm not the least bit jealous of y'all... I know that I'll get the bath of my dreams at some point...
Seriously, mine's better than when I bought this house. The walls were an orange tile, and the floor was black! It was like living in a pumpkin! Now, it's pretty, but circa 1998 JC Penney's... |
Mine's pretty standard Pottery Barn. Nice enough, but nothing spectacular.
I'm thisclose to talking my hubby into a bigger house with his and hers dressing rooms and bathrooms off either side of the master bedroom (I practically drooled when I saw the floor plan!!!). I hope, I hope, I hope..... |
my mom and i re-did the bathroom in the house a few years ago....
now it has light-tan colored tile flooring w/ white grout...white wainscotting (sp?) on the bottom half of the walls and above that pale green (think light jade) and white faux-finished walls (rag wash i think...) we bought one of those bathroom decorating sets (curtains, towels, soap dish, shower curtain, tissue box, soap dispenser, etc.) from ...i don't remember where..... it's got big blocks of muted color (pale green, tan and white) with random ferns and greenery ... sounds ugly i guess but it's all coordinating w/ the tan, green and white everywhere so it's all fresh, clean, and pretty.... it was an old bathroom w/ a claw-footed porcelian tub and a porcelain pedastal sink so it's actually really nice now w/ the colors.... wow...i need to lay off this medication....upon re-reading, i've decided this post doesn't make a lick of sense... but i'm leaving it as is for personal amusement sometime in the future....feel free to laugh as much as you wish! |
Since my roommate moved out, the bathroom is ALL mine!!
I can't paint or wallpaper the bathroom walls so I have to depend on lighting and accessories. My colors are light Blue and white. I got this shower curtain from Target that started it all. It is clear and it has a girl (it just shows her outline) in a bubble bath reading a book. It is really cute. Since it's clear, I added another curtain behind it which is light blue. My rugs are all light Blue. Well, I only have enough room for one, so it's rug. Yesterday I went to the Polo outlet, and they were having a sale on ALL towels. So I went ahead and got 5 for only $25!! The color of the towels match perfeclty with my shower curtain and rug. I also go one of these... http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CTZZZZZZZ_.jpg To put all my hair stuff, casue Lord knows I am a hair product junkie, and put all my other neccessities... Candles are everywhere and I put up Christmas lights up too. I also have up Pics from Anne Geddes...if you dont know who she is, she takes pics of babies dressed up like flowers, or bugs, or fairies...whatever. And they are so precious!! hmm, that is about I CAN do to my bathroom:) |
how do you get old wallpaper off??
Quote:
i have several rooms that i want to paint but they have years of old wallpaper stuck very tightly to the walls. any suggestions for getting it off or for prepping the walls for paint?? |
The metallic part was kind of tricky. I had to find a loose edge and pull the decorative layer off first, then go back over it to remove the adhesive side.
You can get this wallpaper remover at Walmart, Lowe's or any store like that. It's called Dif and comes in either a concentrate to be mixed with water or a spray gel. Once it's applied, you let it soak for a few minutes, and the wall paper can be removed pretty easily with a scraper. Almond paste is the color of paint I used. It's kind of a yellow cream color, and fortunately, the walls hadn't been painted behind the wallpaper. |
my phi sig bathroom
my walls are off white. . .
so i decided to go sorority on them with a twist since i'm over 21, i wanted to have a mature bathroom first, i have a mirror that reaches the length of one wall in front of the sink and toilet greenery of yellow sunflowers wound around the mirror at the top, i let them drape in certain spots i have dark blue and yellow towels on the cabinet doors i have dark blue towels on the towel rack with yellow small ones on top the toilet top is off white embroderied with sunflowers on top are yellow and blue towels rolled navy style the shower curtain is dark blue with silver rungs threaded through each rung is greenery i call it the Phi Sig bathroom of course, i'm contemplating moving in with my 'friend' he's an SAE. . .so this will be an easy transition my bed room is already purple and if we have to go with a bathroom color i guess it will be yellow(blue and gold, yellow and gold) and we'll just do the kitchen in blue of course, i heard he's not asking me to move in until august |
