Japanese hair straightening
 

Has anyone tried this? if so did you like your hair afterwards? I am thinking about having this done but am a little afraid as I have had "perm" straighteners before and these usually looked horrible. Any info. would be appreciated.

i've been thinking about getting it done for months now, i've finally decided that i will most likely do it in june..the only thing i can say is DO YOUR RESEARCH. go to someone who has a lot of experience. i've been reading the following messageboards trying to make my decision:

Thanks for the web sites-I now have 2 salons to choose from here in Austin. Now I just have to get the guts to go do it (and the $$ :))

Does it make your hair straight and glossy like Japanese hair? I'd love to have hair like BlazerCheer's!

From what I have heard it makes your hair straight for several months. It is very expensive around here.

its very expensive in general..it ranges in price from anywhere to $200-$1000+...from what i have heard tho, when done right its DEFINATELY worth the $$..

its a very time consuming, lenthy, delicate process..

basically they use chemicals to separate the bonds in hair that makes it curly so it is straight..its not exactly "wash & go" but its certainly more straight/manageable/frizzy then hair thats curly..it does take a little bit of help from a flat iron to make it "shiny", and since its such a delicate process you have to make sure you have someone with a lot of experience because you can really mess up your hair

it also allegedly makes your hair humidity proof, which is why i am considering getting it done..my hair is naturally curly, but i have no problem straightening it w/a hair dryer & flat iron..but once summer/humidity come along its a lost cause and it drives me nuts..

Two or three ladies I know had this done and they're very happy with how it looks. It IS big $$$$, though!

All this talk it making me want to get it done as well. Now that its summer time, and its starting to get very hot and humid, my hair just gets out of control. I almost always have to wear it up, and sometimes to the extreme of a bun, to where I have NO hair sticking up, or out.

Thing is, sometimes i get my hair flat ironed, and I love it because its super straight, super smooth and so shiny, but after a couple of hours, I want my hair back- reason is because its so flat and I love how I have volume and texture. Plus, I think having super stick straight hair, and a round face dont go hand in hand.

I once had my hair straightened and it was fine, but my scalp hurt for a couple of days afterwards, and washing my hair was a pain, literally.

The lady wasnt very experienced, because she didnt tell me that I had to tell her when i felt it burning, so I just sat there trying to hold it out until i couldnt take it anymore and had to tell her. Also, the ends of my hair touched my cheek like twice, and so then I had like a little scar because it burned my skin- that stuff is VERY strong!!

I finally got it done! It is so straight and smooth, I LOVE IT!!! I highly recommend this procedure to anyone that is sick of their curly hair. I had Nicole Kidman's hair (like she had in Days of Thunder) and now have Julianne Moore hair :).

It was 650$ and took 4.5 hrs. I don't have to blow dry it according to my hairdressor but I probably will blow dry it straight using a brush (which I would and could not do with my curly hair or I would look like Annie). Yes it is expensive but I have waited 20 years for straight hair and I would have payed much more if needed. It is so worth it :).

Whenever I get my new computer I will try to scan in before and after pictures (If I can figure out how to do it:))

I have heard of this. I am a member of an African American hair care message board where we were discussing this product. From what I gather, this "straightener" is very similiar to a relaxer, which is what we use to straighten our hair. It's a chemical that breaks down the bond of "curl", permanently straightening it.

You can buy home relaxers anywhere from $5 - $10. At the salon, the price is probably $75 to $100.

This product sounds like the same thing to me only more expensive. :eek:

Given the diverse textures of black hair that relaxers can be used on (from kinky to naturally straight) I don't see why you couldn't use it. :confused:

I am against all methods of hair straightening. Curly hair=hotness factor right off the bat.
