Centennial Project Approved!!

If you are a quilter, or if you know any Alpha Gams who are quilters....

Months ago I submitted a proposal for a quilt to honor the Alpha Gamma Delta Centennial. Because of changes in my life I dropped the thread, and then there were changes in the Centennial Committee. We've picked up the thread, and Intl Prez Suzanne Spicer said that Council has approved the project.

Basically, members will make blocks for a quilt that will be hung at IHQ.

If you're interested in participating, let me know!

Nann,

I'll be sure to pass the word along to the collegians and alumnae here! Is there an email that I can pass along to the sisters if they're interested? PM if you like!

LIEP,
Sandy

Ooo! That sounds awesome! I don't quilt yet, but I'm planning on learning. What would be involved in the project?

I wish I could quilt! Drat!

Here's the scoop. The design as I have envisioned it so far features a center design made up of 11 "1904 Star" blocks. (The significance should be obvious.) That's a fairly difficult pattern so I'll make them myself unless I find out that any other AGDs are experienced quilters.

All the other stars will surround the center cluster.

PM me if you have any more questions.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Centennial Quilt Project

Attention, Alpha Gam quilters! You’re invited to contribute to Fraternity history by participating in the Centennial Quilt Project. The quilt will be presented at the Centennial Convention in Chicago, June 20-23, 2004.

The block: any star block of your choice. (www.quilterscache.com has many examples; or check the quilting book section of your local library). The block should be 6-1/2” unfinished (6” finished).

The color scheme: red, buff, and green. (You didn’t expect a break with tradition for this occasion, did you?) Think soft tones, not neon-brights. Try to avoid solid colors; this quilt needs to have variety!

The fabric should be 100% cotton, prewashed. *Do NOT sign* your block! Instead, on a separate 4” square of fabric, write your name, chapter/club, and city using a Pigma-brand permanent pen. The signature squares will go on the back of the quilt.

Due dates:
June 30, 2003: inform the project coordinator of your intent to participate
September 30, 2003: send the completed block to the project coordinator

The details:
The quilt will be machine-pieced and machine-quilted.
Yes, you are welcome to:
• make more than one block
• help the project coordinator set the blocks (for people with some quilting or sewing experience)
• contribute to the cost of the fabric for the border and backing and for the quilting

Thank you for your interest!

Thank you for posting the info! I just sent an e-mail to my chapter's Yahoo! Group to see if there's any interest. I can't wait to see the quilt at Convention. :)
