The National Dean's List
I received something in the mail telling me I had been nominated for the National Dean's List. Does anybody know much about it? I do know that it is affiliated with Who's Who Among American High School Students, which I was nominated for every year in high school. Of course I will send in my bio. and such, but does being in this book really help you out in any way? Are there really any advantages to being in the book?

i signed up for the in high school and continued to get mail from them during college.
all they did after that was send me credit card applications. Unless you are going to grad school and they are really REALLY looking at your q's... i wouldn't go for it. |
my opinion of things like these that don't even have some sort of chapter organization in campus are that they're just money making schemes.
you're much better spending your money on a legitimate organization on campus that you'll get more out of. |
It appears to me that all of the "who's who" type of books are, in reality, a way to sell the books to you. If you want to pay a lot of money to see your name in print, I guess they're a nice ego builder. In terms of doing any good beyond that, I have yet to see any proof of it.

Last year I was nominated for the National Dean's List. I only had a 3.0 cumulative GPA, so .. I don't know.. I didn't even make my school's dean list so I didn't feel like sending any bio or money for a book

Sometimes I think the high school Who's Who is a joke. There are always little things in our local paper saying this person or that person got named to it, and most of the time I think, "How on earth...?"

Well, yeah, even after I told my mom about me being 'nominated' for this National Dean's List, she told me, "I know you are smart, but how??" She doesn't get it either.

It sounds a little sketchy to me, like the Who's Who...basically a ploy to sell books for parents eager to see little Johnny's name in print. I've never heard of the National Dean's List, my school doesn't even calculate GPA, let alone a Dean's list. A prestigious-sounding, yet totally meaningless honor.

I got one in the mail too, about maybe a month ago. Anyway, its due tomorrow and I think I will mail it in. I made the Dean's List last semester by having a 3.75 GPA, but my cumulative GPA isnt that high. I think its a neat thing to have your bio and picture in a book. I dont know if I will go to grad school, but it is a nice thing to have on your resume anyway.
In high school I was never nominated for the who's who, so I think this is an honor. |
If I remember correctly, haven't opened the Dean's List envelopes in forever cuz I'm not paying to put my picture in there, but I thought it told you who nominated you? I thought my counselor nominated me but I could be wrong.
Funny how I made the national dean's list and not the dean's list here, haha |
