Rush!
Greeting to the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc.
I would first like to thank you all for taking the time out to answer our questions. This is only a small example of the class you have. Rush is starting in March for the chapter here at my school. I am very nervous about the whole process. I have been trying to study the history in my spare time but i dont quiet know all the small details. I know that this question may have been asked before but i would like to know if there is anything that i should know about or do to better my chances. I heard that some "deltas" didn't want their IG's to wear pants suits to the interest meeting or to wear red or cream to any of the activities. Are there any rules like this that i would need to follow? Once again i would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read if not answer my questions. ~ God Bless |
When you attend rush, dress as though you were going on an interview. I think people try their best to avoid wearing the sorority's colors or black when they attend a rush just because they aren't sure if it is appropriate or not. My advice is to stick with neutral colors if you are in doubt.

I would have to agree with my soror Akatude on this one. Most interest just try to stay away from wearing the sorority colors to the rush. Truth be told, in the rushes that I've attended as an interest (man that was a LONG time ago), I REFUSED to even walk around in Pink or Green for fear of getting called out. There as a time that we were requested to come to an AKA function in Pink and Green....and let me tell you how I ALMOST didn't do it. What's funny is, now as a soror, I do look @ interests funny when they come to rush in the colors (I just don't think that I'm going to get over it!). Anyhoo, my suggestion is to go with Black or Grey....something very neutral.

I have to agree with my sorors on this one. It was just last year that I was in your shoes. My anniversary was on Valentine's Day!! Anyway, your dress should be as professional as possible, black or grey. Please keep your accessories at a minimum, no pearls. I even took a small organizer to write any pertinent information. More than anything, take confidence and be patient. Best wishes in you quest for AKAland.
