Destination: Ohio?
 

For years I've been wanting to go on vacation to Ohio and go to Cedar Point, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and probably make a stop at DG's Executive Offices.

My question is - is there anything else of interest to do/see in Ohio? Or should I just make a long weekend of it instead of an entire week?

No offense to the Ohioans on GC, but it's pretty much corn to the left and cows to the right.
I think you can do everything in a long weekend (3-4 days).

Where are you coming from and when do you plan on coming? I live in Ohio and I'm getting ready to move up towards Cleveland. I've been to Cedar Point way too many times but I've never been to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I would say make it a long weekend rather than a weekend or a week long trip. :)

A bunch of my family lives in the Cleveland area. I'm sure there's a lot to do that locals could tell you about...but as far as the touristy long weekend...what you want to do can definitely be done.

I'm not sure where you're from but from Chicago, Cedar Point is like a 4 hour drive. We left early Friday morning I'm talking like 5 am, checked into our hotel, and spent the day at CP. The park is gorgeous and you can get it done in a day, though if you want to go to the water park or whatever, you could make it a 2 day thing, too.
Saturday we drove up to Cleveland to stay w/relatives...spent the afternoon at the Rock and Roll hall of fame. RRHF definitely NOT a day thing...you could spend all the time you want and still be done in about 3 hours.

LOL, I lived in Michigan for almost 25 years and there are a lot of places in Michigan that you can say that about too. :)

I still consider myself and Michigander even though I've been living in Ohio for over two years. :)

I'm coming from the DC area, so we'd probably have to tack on a day for driving there and back.

I would suggest staying in the Cleveland area and then driving over to Cedar Point for the day. There is a lot more to do in Cleveland than there is in Sandusky.

When I move I will be living 16 miles from downtown Cleveland and about 40 miles from Cedar Point. :)

Sandusky is a pretty crappy little town- Cedar Point rocks! but that's the only thing going on there.

Cedar Point can definately take 2 days to see it all, depending on when you go. Hotels are fairly inexpensive in the area.

I would go with the long weekend. I'm from southern ohio and go to school in southern ohio so I've only been in the north a few times. I think there's a Sea World up there somewhere. Other than that the only things you'd want to do is go to Cedar Point and the RocknRoll hall of fame unless you want to make the 4-5 hour drive down to Cinci for Paramount's Kings Island.

Actually, Cedar Point has a dolphin show on the park. The Rock Hall is neat. Cleveland and Cincinnati also have professional baseball (well, sort of). Cleveland has a world class symphony orchestra. There are lots of things to do along Lake Erie.

If you're going for basically the amusement park, you might also want to try Kings Island near Cincinnati.

Bottom line, there's enough to do in Ohio for a week if you want, counting travel days.

There's also a Six Flags World of Adventure within fairly close driving distance- closer to Cedar Point than Kings Island would be.

I haven't been to 6 Flags WOA since it was Geagua Lake Amusement Park and Sea World of Ohio (6 flags bought both like 2 years ago or so- they're right across from each other on a lake)...... Geagua Lake was a fairly small park, nothing super. I'm sure 6 Flags has made some improvements though. I'm giving it another couple of years to get built up before I go though.

Except, if you're going to DG HQ, you'll be in Columbus. There's lots of fun bars and shops there, minor league baseball, and usually some good concerts at Polaris. Col is halfway between Cincy and Cleveland, so you could totally do the Ohio amusement park tour :)

If you go to Columbus, stop for one of the best hamburgers in the world at the original Max and Erma's in German Village.

To me, the only place worth visiting in Ohio is Dayton, home of the U.S. Air Force Museum. Well... maybe the Rock 'n Roll Hall of fame in Cleveland...:)

Well..if you're coming soon..there's not much going on really. I live right on the river (right across from the "Mothman" deal). There's always Bob Evan's Farms, heh. Umm....if you like Amish or millions of craft stores I can tell ya where to go, other than that stick with the larger cities. *nods*
